New Lighting question

I have a new lighting settup in my tank. IT's got a 65 White light and 65w Blue Acintic lighting , however you spell it haha. Anyways, soo I have a timer light strip that has day and night settings. I have the blue and white plugged in during the day and the blue by itself at night. IS this right? Should there be a period where there is NO light at all? I have a Green algae growth on my tank walls so I'm wondering if I have to much lighting.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't run my actinic all the time. If the tank is still pretty new, I might would run the actinic for an hour in the morning by itself, then both for about 6 hours, then just the actinic again for an hour before I turn it off. This would be a total of 8 hours of lighting for the tank. Hope that helps! :)

oh wait...i misread that i think. Are you asking if you run the daylight (white) during the day and the actinic (blue) during the night? If so, no. They both run during the day. The actinic is for coral color and to help make the yellow look of the daylight more white
