I'm picking up my new light tomorrow!!!!:) It's a 150 metal halide with 2 96 power compacts. I'm planning on putting it on small tank for now and useing old light on new tank to cycle some new rock. I was wondering if I should acclimate the corals to the new light. I read that if you place a few pieces of acrilic under the light. ( the kind ou can buy a home depot for fluorescent lights.) it will help the corals adjust to the new light. then slowly move it a way each night. Something to that affect. Or do I just gice them the sun full blast. Any suggestions?????

If it is something other than a metal halide where the halide is going to be a big difference in light, I would either try to raise the light up higher and slowly lower it closer to the tank over time to acclimate the corals or put screens under the corals and take them out slowly, or the acrylic may work as you said.

Thanks T5Nitro. I like the lowering idea. That could work well. And I won't have some pieces of plastic hanging around when I'm done..........Sorry about all the type o's. I'm a reefer not a typer. hehe.

Yes indeed, it is fairly easy to bleach corals with sudden changes in light intensity. The phased increase in light, by elevating then lowering the lights over time, is a secret to success. When adding new corals to an established tank they should be first placed in a shaded location and then moved to more illuminated areas over time.
