New lights

We just bought a blue LED light that fights on the hood of our tank. It is supposed to simulate moonlight and I was wondering if you are supposed to leave it on all night or just for a couple of hours. Will it cause algae growth like a regular light that had been left on to long? Thanks

the LED's aren't going to phase anything....not unless you had lots and lots and lots of them. I leave mine on all night. More for a midnight trip to the bathroom night light than anything. Sometimes I don't even put it on. It shouldn't phase algae growth either.

I have 4 leds (2 sets of 2) over a 75. They are on 24 hours. The T5s are on about 7 hours so you can't really see the leds then, but there has been no adverse result. Sometimes I think I hear Iron Butterfly and Jimi hendrix coming from the fish room at 2 am...

i made a moonlight strip with some blue leds from best buy about two years ago. And everytime i left them on all night, the next day my tank was very cloudy and the skimmer was going nuts. I tried it several times with the same result over a month or twos span. I am convinced there was something about the ones i bought that were triggering a bacteria bloom or something. But other people seem to not have that issue

My PC's have several LED moonlights built in... they stay on all the time. They give the shimmering effect of a hallide, but are obviously not visible during the day.

I leave my Led's on untill 2 AM... and then total black out after that. That way all of the Nocs. can run amuck without being seen!! hehehe
