New LTA Behavior

I purchased a long tentacle anemone last Saturday (2/8/14). I properly drip acclimated it and then placed it in my DT. It almost immediately took hold in a position between two pieces of LR and the sandy bottom.

It was open and looked full and healthy Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Yesterday it withdrew deep into the LR with only a small portion of it showing. It has stayed withdrawn since. The part of it I can see still has very good color and I do not see any slime or pieces of it in the tank.

Is this normal for a long tentacle anemone or is it experiencing some trouble?

I plan to check my parameters when I get home from work and probably do a 20% WC as well. This 120 tank has been up for 6 months with constantly good and steady params. The ELOS ATO maintains salinity right at 1.024 and I do not have any algea or other indicators of high nitrates or phosphates. Temperature stays between 78 and 80.

Test the water for all the otehr parameters.

It is possible it is acclimating to not only the tank, the space, but also the light/flow. When my LTA was in my 120, over a year ago, it would retract into a hole even though the other clowns were trying to coax it out.

Give it some time still. Be careful that it is not deflating.

Can you take a few pictures or even a video. A video shows the flow and tentacle reaction to things in the water.

Thanks!

Did you all get snow too?

Thanks for the reply! I am glad to hear that the behavior is not completely unexpected. I tested my water last night and everything was fine 1.024, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 0 nitrates. As of this morning, it is fully open. I will try to post some photos (maybe a video) this evening.

We got some snow early last week and it has hung around since then. Supposed to get some warmer weather tomorrow. I hope it all melts and stays gone this time. lol
