wow guys great looking tanks! Glad these are working out well for everyone :) Here is mine. Still running the Iwasaki 175's and only at 10 or 12" I might try the reeflux bulbs in the 175's, then again if I can I might goto 250's with only 2 bulbs. What do you guys think? Stay with the 3x175's or goto 2x250's?

I would stick with the Iwasaki's or go with the 250's. I don't think the 175w coralvues have anywhere near the PAR of the Iwasaki's although they will be bluer.

Yes they are now available. Reef Specialty has a few of them. They are really a slick looking reflector. I think there is a limited quantity of these available right now.

ok, question here...

I have a 48"w x 24" d x 12" h frag tank, and currently have a dual 250w HQI fixture w/4x 65w PC actinics over it.

I want to save on electricity, would a single 20x20 Lumenbright or Lumenarc would cover like a 36x24 area? I want to get the color and growth but save $$ on electric bill, I can use a 250w or would be better two minis w/ 175w each?

also about how hight the reflectors will need to be from the tank?

thanks

thanks raynist, I just looked at the numbers....it would be pretty silly for me to change. The 175 reeflux are pretty bad in numbers and my bulbs keep up with a lot and beat most 250's. Guesss I'll just stick with it.

jmc...personally I'd go with 2x175 iwasaki's in the mini LB's. They kick some extremely impressive PAR. but if you only want to do 1 the LA I think would be better for the spread. It's not going to give you as much PAR, but it'll definately cover more of the area you need.

glxtrix

but even if I use the LA 20x20 w/250w it won't give enough PAR? my frag tank is only 12" deep, and the frags are about 4" below the water level, so technically if I set the LA about 12" above the tank the corals will be 16" under the lowest part of the LA reflector, is that not enough PAR?

also what bulb on the SE 250w has the most PAR/COLOR combination? ReefLux 12k?

thanks

Advice ......

Advice ......

I am in the process of building my tank (84L" x 22D" x 24H")

Which one of the Lumen Bright should I get the mini or the large one? And is 3 of them enough for my tank (250 watters).

What ballast should I get?

jmc....the best I've seen with 250's is hamilton 14K on a pfo ballast, puts 99ppfd. For a 14K thats pretty decent. Lots of people here use the reeflux on coralvue ballasts, they say it has the most natural color. But I dont think it has the best par that you "could" get. Dont worry about the height, they will get plenty of PAR there. I'm getting high 200's at the bottom of my 24" deep tank with 175's that are 10-12" Peep this website and do some configurations.

Kidney....Go with the minis. I have them on my 140 which is 24"D. # might be ok, just make sure you get them a lil bit higher 12-16" to help with spreading the light.

One thing I would like to mention which I never noticed with any of my other light systems is that even with 1 reflector running at either side of tank I get some light at the opposite corner.

well, after all the advise, I found a reefer selling their LA3's and they are HUGE! 20x20 :eek1:

I got them at a really good price $150 for both, no corrosion or damage, he didn't even wanted to clean the light salt spray they have, because he didn't want to scratch them, they are like new, minus the light salt spray...

I can't wait to install one, but can anyone tell me the best way to clean them w/o scratching the reflector?

also will the Reeflux 12k or the ReefOptics 14k would be better for color and growth on my frag tank? as no other light will be used area is about 35+x20 corals are only 4" below water level.

I clean mine with Just HOT water and a paper towel. You could use a MILD vinegar solution to clean the as well. The LA3's can take a glass shield which will stop the salt spray.

updated pix!!! and a video!

had some trouble with a ballast and it took a few weeks to finally get both going

tank is 4 ft by 3ft by 2ft

Just took some new par readings today and after 3 months, my 12K Reeflux has lost 4-5% of its par output. Is that good for a lamp?

cl2 do you have a tank build link ? I have the exact dimensions being built right now and would love to see how you decided to seti it up. Im also gonna go with 2 large LB on it w/ 4 T5's
