I received a single male from LA on Tuesday. Acclimated him to a 30g (20g sump) QT - carefull to follow their instructions. (my first shipped fish, I always bought from LFS prior)
Anyhow, this guy just hides and won't come out to eat or anything when I'm around.
Did spot him on the webcam yesterday venture out occassionally, but dart back in to cover. By the time I got home he was back in to hiding, and showed no interest in food (small mysis).
For the QT, there's a thin layer of live sand, a few rocks. An aquaclear 100 with the sponge seeded previously in the sump from the 180g. I also add Stability to keep the bacteria going.
I didn't bother with a skimmer since once it was eating I was going to treat with prazi. I figure one fish is 50g I could manage the water quality without it.
Also, when it came time to remove him from the shipping bag and put him in the tank I saw a red spot at the base of the first (forward) dorsal spine. With the fish being a bright pink/red color, it's hard to see while he's hiding if there's any change. I thought it could be an injury from transport?
I know anthias need to eat. I have others (in the 180) and they eat more than once a day. I'm anxious to get this guy eating. Any ideas?
Any thoughts on the red spot?
Does he just need more time to adjust? I know that being the only fish in the tank is probably freaking him out. I'm almost tempted to get two female lyretails (which I want to add) just so he's not alone and QT them together.
