New Mantis Shrimp Owner

Hey All!

I have acquired a Peacock mantis shrimp from my LFS who had it for over two months or more and always admired this predator every time I went to the store.

Finally I decided to get the mantis and have it in a 10 gallon glass aquarium with about half inch of sand and two nice pcs of LR and it is doing really great. I have had him for about a month or so now. It has molted once and came through that fine.

It ended up eating the exo-skeleton which I heard is a good thing. It looks more beautiful than ever now.

It is about 3" or so long. I feed it home made mush and a live hermit or snail now and then. It is coming out more and checking it's surrounding and looks so cool perched on top of the LR when it is surveying it's domain.

Here is a pic of him peeking out of his cave. Johnny:)

HF LF Kickass.

I got a long pair of tweezers and a pack of frozen krill. I break off one small krill and use the tweezers to sorta wave it around my mantis' burrow. She comes out and gives it a whack then snatches it back into her system of tunnels. Very cool. I'm able to entice her right out in the open, she's not very shy and I think she trusts me now.

ps the pack of krill is like a lifetime supply, damn skippy. one small frozen brick will feed this thing for life!
