New mantis tank

Hey guys,
I have salt water tanks and fresh water tanks. I want to setup a 10gal mantis tank with aragonite fine crushed coral. I am going to use LR and I want to use this other type of rock just to get the mantis some hiding spots. What is a good temp for it and what is a good salinity level?

The round rocks ^, can I use them in saltwater? Just to add hiding spots.

Temp: 75-80F. Salinity: 1.022-1.026. Yes, that rock is fine, but I would add live rock rubble which would be much easier for the mantis to "build" with. Those round rocks won't stack very well.

N. wennerae is a good species. Some people would recommend P. ciliata also. It's a great mantis but IMHO it needs more room. G. smithii and G. viridis are good mantises also. Check out Roy's list for a list of mantises and their recommended tank size.

I was looking at roys list i am not to sure of the english system measurements that he had listed.
I really like this guy alot.

the one youve picked out is very pretty but Im not sure about the species hardiness. Id stick with an n.wenn. or g.smithii, you could always get a small peacock if you plan to upgrade. stomatopod.com had a 1.5" peacock about a month ago.. and you could keep that in a 10g for a long time seeing as they only grow about an inch a year.

Dont do crushed coral its just a nitrate factory and it looks nasty when all the gunk gets caught in it. Im not sure if you meant the regular 'grain' size but dont go with anything that doesnt look like 'sand'. rocks should be like small marbles or jellybeans.

Ive also heard that the mantis can (to some extent) change color according to his environment so I would keep that in mind when planning your tank!even if you just throw some cheap mushrooms in there or something to liven it up

Good luck it sounds like fun!

actually, G. viridis is a very hardy species of mantis.
