Hey guys. THis is all new to me as far as the reef club thing but I just joined with a Student membership. I just wanted to ask if there is anything further i need to do as far as verifying school enrollment, or what else I should know as a new member? I just want to get more involved with people who share my love for this hobby and to support the group that has help me so much already. Thanks
 
Welcome aboard!!!

No need to verify as far as we are concerned, we "trust you". (If someone was not a student and felt the "need" to enter as one we can certainly live with it if they are comfortable) We just want to help out students and get them involved in the hobby and our club.

We will post the site of the next meeting within the next few days or so. Just watch for it and we welcome you attending the meeting and getting to know you. Send me your e-mail via PM just to make sure that we have your e-mail correctly.

I'm in school and I did the same thing last week... I didn't know it was for under 18 until someone told us. So, I joined again with my hubby as a family to be fair...

I don't think it matters what your age is. As long as you are a student and can show a school id you are fine. I am pretty sure that is how it works but I may be mistaken on that.
I think maybe Rendos was just assuming since you were a student you were pretty young is all.

Don't take my word for it...the person to ask is the current president. Maybe they changed it...I just remember writing the by-laws and assumed they were still the same.
 
The Club has not been enforcing that in that manner for several years "The 18" yearold deal"

It does read that way in the club "by laws" but that is not how it has been handled, and yes I would agree with you most college Students "do not" have much money to spend, and we do want there participation. Do not "sweat that right now, we are currently reviewing the by-laws to make sure that they actually read how they are being inforced.

Right Now we are glad to have the college students, "period" !!! I personally would rather see the college students envolved with the club, and spend that extra $20.00 at our local club sponsers!!!! Welcome aboard !!!
 
Well ok guys. Thanks 4 the input. I've emailed the President about the situation and I guess I will hear the outcome soon. (Unless he has to run it by Congress 1st.)

Well, that being sad and assumed that I do what is necessary to become an official member. What are some of the things I can look forward to as a member?
 
I think the by laws should be amended to include full time students regardless of age... I for one know how expensive it is to be a college student! And when you're full time, it's nearly impossible to make ends meet. Perhaps we can take it up at the next meeting.
 
And perhaps free memberships for parents of full time college students! Whew, those private college bills and out of state tuition hurt!
