I do not know for sure with these types of mushrooms but with ricordea you do not have to have a mouth on each piece. Though they do heal quicker if they do have a mouth because they do not have to spend the time to grow a one since they already have one.
But like I said I do not know for sure but I am very confident that it is not a requirment to have a mouth on it. When you slice the trunk and relocate the top of the mushroom the base has no mouth but will grow into a mushroom.
