New Nano Project!

hey guys, sorry I've been absent for so long, I have been dealing with life.

I got a 14 gallon Bio cube going yesterday in the hopes of getting me back into the game :)

I am trying something new so hopefully it works ok. For the substrate I used 3 inches of Amazonian Freshwater planted tank substrate with a thin layer of aragonite on top. The plan is to plant a full bed of shoal grass and keep a variety of decorative macro algae.

Here is what I got so far....

the sea grass I want to add needs a soil or mud substrate to thrive. The Ideal substrate would probably be 3 inches of miracle mud...but who can afford that!? lol

I wanted to try something new and hopefully be able to use the sea grass as a way to polish the water in the nano with out having to skim.

Not sure how well it will work but I think it will make keeping a nano easier.

I have a feeling that substrate will turn into a nitrate nightmare inside that nano. not only that your PH is not going to be stable. I would monitor the PH to see before adding lives stocks in there.

If you want some kind of soil or mud, I have a bunch inside my fuge that you can have, my old aragonite is turning into mush :D Actually, if you time it during my water change you can have some old water, the mush and your nano tank will be cycle much faster

why do you think the substrate will cause nitrate and ph problems?

Are you going to be doing a water change near the next meeting?
