Well, I've got my "big reef" setup and running for about a year now, and I'm setting up my 210g in-wall reef now as well. So I figured a nano was the next most logical thing
But I can't really leave anything alone, and this thing keeps getting more and more complex, but such is the nature of the beast huh?
From the start it was set to be a single 5 gallon tank. Then it evolved into a 15g system with three 5g tanks in a series, one on top of the other on an old stereo stand. I've started to setup the first tank, and it will end up being the "bottom" tank in the setup, basically the sump, if you will. I did this because I forgot to drill it before I filled it up and cycled it.
Now I think I'm even going to put it in the wall right where it is in the pics. There's a bathroom closet on the other side of that wall, and it's GIGANTIC, way more room than I'll ever use, and big enough to fit my 6'4" 370# Skrek butt into, but we'll see. I just think it'd be a nice piece in the hallway... 3 5g tanks flushed into the wall with ~12" in between them. Who knows?
So here's the pics, it's got a 1.5" - 2" aragonite bed, and I'm modding the oem canopy for dual 10w mogul based bulbs. I've already got everything just need to make my reflector and wire it up tomorrow morning, more pics to follow.
For filtration I'm running the little Marineland wet/dry that was on the tank when it was FW (The last pic shows the water flow across the top of the tank, I like it), and just made up the water, added some frozen mysis twice a week for 3 weeks, and now I've got 0 amonia, 0 Nitrites, and 20 PPM NitrAtes.
The question I have as of now is this: Is it too soon to add a fish or a few frags. I know the delicate nature of these tanks, and don't want to throw the whole thing in a tizzy, but this is the point that'd I'd normally add a fish and watch everything really closely to help colonize more bacteria. FWIW, I seeded it with sand from 3 different 1 year+ tanks, and my tank and sump. I'd guess I have added 2 or so moist solo cups full of live seeded sand.
From looking at the pics do you wonder why I'm modding my hood? I'll post up a DIY on it incase anyone is thinking of using the OEM hoods for better lighting.
Thanks for letting me into your "little" world.
