hey guys i'm new to RC and so far boards have been helpfull but i have some questions about my new aquapod 12g. Anyway i filled it with water this morning to mix salt in the tank but i am having a terrible time keeping the temp constant at the temp i want to mix the salt i was wondering what you guys do to keep from having temp fluctuations? the lights arent on because i read that they heat up the tank so i wanted to get salt mixed before running them. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks!

well finally i think it is sitting fairly stedy between 79 and 80 without a heater so i added salt and am letting it mix but i'm thinking when the lights kick on and the hood is closed the temp is gonna get up there. I also read about MJ 900 and replaced original pump with it if that matters

This will be the first and last time you mix the salt in this way, so don't worry about it too much. I'd suggest buying a bucket (the 5 gallon homer buckets at HD are great) plus a cheapo powerhead and cheapo heater for future. In P'burg, you could probably find these on the cheap from a local reef club.
For now, prop open your hood if you are concerned about temp--though I'm not sure why it matters for you at the moment--until you get a heater.
