New nano

Ok I just picked up a new nano from mikerads. It's a 24 gallon jbj nano cube. this is a upgrade from my jbj 12 gallon (may be available interested) I am truly up in the air about what way to go with this tank. I know for a fact I am going to have a pair of false percs and possibly a small bubble tip if I can find one that stays small. I have tossed the idea of an aussie tank inspired by the nano of the month tank. But another recommendation was made to go with a non-photosynthetic tank I am very tempted to go this route. The maint will be alott higher but they look awesome. My question is the anem they have different needs how does everyone think they will coexist?

I am jst wondering what the availability would be on corals if I went non-photo I dont want to have to order every coral I want and also even though they dont need light would it hurt them?

well substrate is in tank is clear some rock moved over. I made a hanger for my 250 watt aquamedic hqi setup and hated it I am just not a pendent person the light looked good but esthetically it wasnt me. anyone want a pendent haha

the percs and nem are are going to dominate the tank. i like the non photo idea. low light/low heat would work great with your tank.

I agree but I would think high nutrients would equal a skimmer being a must and they aren't easy to come by not to mention coral availability

Mikerads-Great guy!
I think go which way is more economical for you. The availability would be a bit bothersome for me but you can always order through your lfs and pick up locally. I'm just starting to learn about corals so I can't help ya but I think what ever way you decide to go it's going to be a sweet tank!
Updated pics? lol
I would love to have a pendant/hanging light ,I hate my light with the docking legs Im always moving the light to do water changes ect The legs have broken once already :( Plus Im always worried they will give out and my light will crash!

yeah I havent used one of those ones with legs in along time they would bother me too right now. I always have something I can either open a door to or flip up

From what I understand about non-photos, you probably would need a skimmer of some kind. Because of how much they need to be fed, the nutrient levels get crazy. They also seem to be about as sensitive as SPS to water quality. I'm interested in this type of set-up as well. There are some beautiful tanks on the non-photo coral forum, as well as some helpful info on how to set up a whole tank of them. I'm looking forward to some updates on your progress. I wouldn't mind checking your price on that 12 jbj either ;) LMK It would give me another excuse to get out to Rochester and check out your stores.

as far as skimmer I really dont think its a necessity as I will be doing weekly water changes. the 12 gallon has already been spoken for

well I have it up and running added a yellow banded pipefish thats doing great eating everything in site also added a few corals more to come tonight once I get it all set there will be some pics sea horses to come next week

what type of seahorses? I have an extra aquapod laying around and my wife really really wants seahorses.

i had a pair of flame tail/yellow banded. really cool to watch them together. country max by MO has one, of all places .cheap. just watch them ,they don't have scales. coral can sting and kill quickly. an acan ate mine

yeah the one I have now came from country max I watched him for a few days they had him 2 weeks then fed him while I was there he is doing really well right now when did you see the one there maybe they have another one. as far as horses since its my first time with them I will more than likely just go with kellogi

there was one left on thursday. mine would do this cool courtship dance. it's kind of like having one clown. it's cool, but a pair is really nice.
