New non-photosynthetic section on DD

Aquabacs

If you haven't noticed Kevin and the crew have added a new non-photosynthetic section to the Diver's Den.

Nice. I hope this means they are gonna be bringing in more stuff regularly. If those gorgs are still left by the end of the week I'm gonna order them.

Already took advantage of it ;). But I'm trying to save some $$$ because I can only imagine what will appear in the new section!

You will notice that LA is completely behind the non-photosynthetic community. Kevin even updated their site regarding featherstars, better yet, they are actually posting them up on their site for sale! Keep in mind, as online vendors support us we need to support them as well, especially if they are sponsors of RC or upcoming azoox site ;)

I too am very excited. I was going to order a lobo last night but someone beat me too it. I look forward to some new products on there. My money awaits to support!

When I was at DD this past weekend, Kevin has an entire trough devoted to azoox corals and is definitely working to offer more and better specimens. If anyone can expand the quality and availability of azoox corals, it'll be Kevin.

+1 Their service and the quality of their livestock is among the best in the business.

I guess the question is whether they're able to keep the NPS livestock fat and healthy prior to selling them. Does anyone know how they are feeding them and what kind of systems they are using to maintain them?

Kevin has a NPS tank so I'm sure he'll be able to condition them for selling

Having a tank and selling stuff commercially is entirely different. I have no doubt Kevin will treat them as they should, but I do take issue with saying since some one has a tank they should be able to hold and condition livestock commercially.

Did you say you have pics? :spin3::spin2:

Also, in terms of expanding the availability of azoox corals, I think it is more appropriate to say "non-photosynthetic" in this case. I'm sure we would like to see different varieties of black corals too (and who knows what other non-photosynthetics possess zooxanthellae after all). Not a big deal, but I just want to give the plug for bringing in more black corals (especially branching) in case Kevin is reading this :twitch:

Lets not forget as well that Phishy's and Cherry Corals both have non-photo sections. I think Phishy's was actually the first to do this. I haven't seen much coming in from them lately but we should support all of them when we can

The ones I've gotten from them so far have been in REALLY good condition, even the dendronephthya. It wasn't always the case in the past, which makes me think they've made some improvements on their end in terms of how they are receiving them or caring for them.

Sure, I agree 100% but having an non-photosynthetic tank (which I assume is thriving) proves understanding of the care of these animals which will be required for success.

Some of the best coral exporters I know couldn't keep a reef tank if it were needed to save their life, but they can ship a perfect coral. Shipping coral, holding coral and keeping a reef tank are not the same thing.

It just so happens Kevin can do all 3!

Kevin if you are reading this, the only reason I haven't ordered at least half dozen pcs on your new nps section is i"m putting what funds I have into ozone system right now.

Keep em coming!!!

I am very interested in the Black corals. In case some of you don't get it, the current edition of Coral has a very interesting artical about them. They might end up being easier than SPS to keep. A key is going to be where they came from and at what depth they came from. Mimicing the lighting is what will be the key, since they now find they are in fact Zoox corals. I wonder if there is a better way to communicate between the divers/wholesalers/ suppliers.

Well Gresham seems to know very well in advance about stuff coming in and Aquabacs often does too so I'm sure they have pretty good communication with the original sources. I know Gresham had mentioned the red zoas long before the Reef Builders article and he mentioned branching black corals too.
