In other news. Coralvue is coming out with the Octopus PRO 300 soon. It will have the larger Laguna pump. Should be quite the monster.

thanks

Is the 160 an overall height of 23" or is it 23" above the stand/pump?

Will these Sicce pumps benefit from an enkamat mod? What about a gate valve mod?

It says the ideal sump water level should be between 8" & 10"? My sump is 11.5" deep, would I need to lift the skimmer up a bit?

Thanks!

Hi,

That should be the total height, unless they listed it wrong. Unfortunately we don't have a demo to measure yet.

They are goind to use a flexible needle wheel impeller, so I have a feeling it will do pretty good. Doing a enkamat mod might help boost the bubbles, but not sure if that would effect the water flow you need to get through the bubble plate. I have a feeling some DIY reefers will figure out some tricks to boost there performance though.

I haven't heard of any gate valve mod for them yet.

ON the sump level, 11.5 would be fine, 8-10 is just ideal range. You could always raise it up a bit, but i don't think 11.5 would cause it to change performance much.

11.5" using the 160 will make is very hard to dial in and it will most likely be to high to use. The sicce with the pinwheel will pull around 30scfh unrestricted on the 200's and above. The meshwheel will do 40scfh to 50+ done correctly. the 200 and above will be fine in 11" of water, but not the 160.

There's a huge thread about the MSX skimmers for info. The MSX are the SWC design, the Octopus extreme's imported by CV are the KO of the SWC design, but they are identical in every way.

Luke, think you got the info wrong here. Check out Coralvue's site. They list their skimmers as Extreme/MSX. Just FYI.

Ostrow, no my info is correct. You know MSX means Marine solutions Xtreme right? MS named the skimmers after there shop so people wouldn't call them octo extreme's because they were designed by SWC. Who is the originator of these skimmers.

Not trying to argue btw, just wanted to clarify :D

So if I order now it should ship the first of July or is that a round about kinda date?

Cause I'm doing a build that would finish up the first of July and that would be great. But I'd hate to have my new set up completely built sitting dry for a month waiting on a skimmer.

Any info you have would be great.

Thanks!

Hi,

They are telling us they will receive middle of July, so figure 3rd week for us to receive them, assuming there is no delays, which is common with importing.

Yes you are right. Chances are I won't be able to get my hands on one till late July early August as the best case senario.

I'm setting my system up now and I can't stand to have it sit dry for 1 or 2+ months waiting on a skimmer.

Shoot! :mad2:

There are many other very good skimmers out there, including many quite comparable to these.

For $300?

I love the mods that MSX has done (silencer, bubble difuser plate, gate valve).

Point me in the right direction!!!

I like the DAS EX1 but man they want some $$$$$

Does anyone have any pictures of the "soft" needlewwheel? Is this something that could be swapped into other Sicce pumps easily?

Any idea if this first round of the Octopus versions of the MSX will have to go through the "learning curve" period that the SWC ones did with regard to machining on the pumps?

Chris

"They are goind to use a flexible needle wheel impeller"

Finally !!!! Don't get me wrong the meshwheel is good but a PITA to work with. Jason please tell me you will carry the Sicce needlewheels as I'm dying to get one for my Sicce pump

FYI, The Sicce's do not need to be machined to work , SWC didn't know how to mod the impeller the way ATI was, so they machined the pumps to make it work the way they were setting up the impellers . ATI doesn't "machine" the pumps, nor do I have my Sicce machined. The Octo Sicce's should not need any machining
