New PhosBan Reactor is up and running on the nano w/ Video

Here is a video after I got it all up and running.
Talk about having to take an hour in OSH looking for all the right adapters!

I have been working on this for about a week or so, just here and there, but it's running full bore now.

I know this is small stuff to you large tank owners, but I thought it was quite the feat to get two pumps (one for filtration return, and the other for closed loop reactor), a heater, and the 2 top off float switches in that tiny space!!!

Anyways, not too big of a mod but enjoy. More are in the works.

For some reason I can't view the video, but I hope you know that the flow through the phosban media is suppose to be a trickle.

Yeah finding the right plumbing in the right sizes can be a pain!!! Though I found OSH is the best source, HD doesn't have anything!!! And finding it, Good Luck.....I worked in lumber yards for years.......I HATE HD.
Currently mine is all clear flex in the sump with barbed fittings until I am positive I like the design before going to PVC. Did you get the two little fishes reactor, those 90 degree fittings on the top are terrible, talk about cheap, thin, flexible plastic. Has anybody replaced those....what did you use?

The flow is suppose to be just enough to get the granuals to dance around to ensure the are fluidized and water comes into contact with a much of it a possible and has enough contact time required to be effective.

I mix a little carbon in mine and turn up the flow a little more....until I get another seperate one later on.

Oh yeah I am using ROWAphos and like it, a lot of others are raving about it also

Hot damn Steve, your on a roll! Looks very very sweet. Video link worked for me, opend up in real player. I really need to hang out with you man and pic your brain! All these DIY are great!Keep up the excellent work, you keep it up and you get my vote for the official MARS DIY Guru :D! Oh and btw, I wanna sign up for this one as well ;)

Nano_reefers, Here are the pics for closing the hood.

I took a dremel and routered out a small portion on the right side of the tank to allow for the hoses.
The fans were on for these pics, that was a quick picture to freeze them that well.

Next I have to figure out how to take off the hood so I can work on it better. When I dremeled out the hood for the hoses I got a bit of plastic "dust / shavings" in the tank. When I do the big light mod I will have to remove the hood for sure. I called nanocustoms today and picked their brain about nano lighting, and how to get the hoods off. They don't have any ideas because mine is NOT the DX so it looks like it was never meant to come off.

Thanks Justin, This one was a pretty small mod, and kinda over kill for a 12g tank but hey. Most of this stuff is not that hard, just taking simple concepts and applying a few to get a bigger project.

I agree, but it would be the perfect size for me 50:cool: Got an estimate of how much the parts put you back?

hey, i used to have an OG nanocube. to take the hood off, close it, so its flat on the tank, then just pull foward on the hood. It's gonna take a little bit of pressure, do one side, than the other. Apply force, but control it so it doesnt go flying when it gives. Good luck!
Larry
btw, once you take it on and off a couple times, it gets easier.

Justin, the parts were only about $20 bucks, the reactor was/is on sale are drsfosterandsmith (till the 5th) for like $29. I'm running RowaPhos in it got it from Ost.

Thank Blue, We need to get with you again and get some macro, the seahorse tank is almost ready and some macro would go well in it.

Larry, Thanks for the tip, I will def try that!!! I was not looking forward to hacking the hood off. Hopefuly this will work.

Also need to post some pics soon of the brine shrimpery. We are now rasing brine shrimp (sea monkeys) in a tiny 1 gallon tank for the seahorses and the fish in my tank LOVE them too!

Look for pics of that comming soon.
