I have had it 2 years now. When I got it was 8-9", now its about 12-13". I just had to remove some corals and rocks so it could open fully.

Looks great! How long do you think it will take to outgrow your 80G? My Derasa doubled in size in 1 year (8") and if it keeps going at this rate it will easily outgrow my 90 in 2 years. Hope you can keep that guy for a while.

It was hitting the glass for awhile but I removed about 20 pounds of rock and several corals last weekend to let it spread out some. In the 2 years I've had it, its growen about 4". From my experiance its really not that fast of grower like many say, I do have a calcuim reactor and keep the calcium in the low 400's and 2x250 halmiton 14k's. I'd say it grows a little less than a 1/4" a month. I still have a couple years in that tank, I'll just have to remove more rock and corals which I don't mind since this is my favorite thing in the tank. I'm am planing a new tank in the summer of next year. I planning on a 180gallon 24x24x72, that should be good for several years.

It will look cool when there is just a big clam in the middle of the tank, with a rock on each side covered in a couple corals!

I had a 19" gigas in the middle of a 225. He now lives at the LFS where they can keep giving him a bigger home! He was 6-7 years old when I carried him to the shop.

He is probably too big now to remove. They will have to break the glass and come out the front to move him!

Really fun watching him grow!

Very nice gigas. I have one that is outgrowing my tank as well. I plan on setting up a 40 gal cube just for the gigas.

Thanks

Theres is 3 species of clown fish in there, percula, ocellaris and saddleback clown. The percula has been in there for 5 years, the saddleback for 3 years and the ocellaris for 2 years. The saddle and percula get along real well, they sleep in the gigas at night. They all fight a little here and there but never do any damage to each other.

Heres a picture of them sleeping in the gigas at night

some questions on feeding

Great clam!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you feeding the tank? plankton

:D CaptiveReef

Thanks

I don't feed the tank. I have a calcium reactor and add iodine and a little kalkwasser once a week or every other week and thats it.
