New pogoda coral question?

I got a new pigoda coral, this is also my first coral. I have noticed it doesnt always stay polyped. Ive noticed that the damsels might be bothering it. Ive been trying to capture my damsels, but no success. I was wondering if I should return the pigoda and get something else in its place, or wait it out and let it get used to its new home? Ive had it now for 3 days now. I also bought a torch and its doing great!!

Pagoda/Turbinaria can be picky about settling in to a new tank. Check all your water params just be sure its alright, and make sure the coral is someplace where it gets fairly strong water flow, but not a direct blast from a powerhead or something. Check it at night also, there are some Turbinarias that tend to act more nocturnal.

Well, thats just the nature of the coral- some are nocturnal, some arent. Just make sure you do a bit more research on whatever coral you decide to trade it in for Before bringing it home- its very stressful, often fatal, to the coral to be moved back and forth between tanks.

Also, once it gets happy and used to its place in your tank it might start putting its polyps out more. Also, remember that it costs corals energy to extend their polyps. They need to feel like they might get some return on their investment (i.e., they come out more when they smell food in the water).

But, honestly, if you're looking for quick fixes of major drama from a pet, I'm not sure you're going to get it from a coral. They're much more of a long-term thing.
