New protein skimmer...tons of bubbles

Hi everyone,

Please view the video and let me know if this is normal. I didn't add any baffles to my sump because I didn't think the protein skimmer would produce so many bubbles outside of it. Does this look normal to you guys?

Brand new skimmer? If so then yes. Needs to break in

My understanding is that's normal with new skimmers. Mine went nuts for at least several days as well - had very fine bubbles coming out.

Yeah that's normal, bubbles is what they do. It may slow a little as it breaks in but with no baffles it will continue to be an issue.

what they mean by break in is a slime coating that happens inside the chamber once this occurs no more bubbles in the dt. this will also happen when you clean it out every few months

it's recommended to run the skimmer outside the sump in a tub or something with a little vinegar. I have done that with my 2 new ones and works like a charm.
