New pump question

Roger, I have a 6105, a 6000(might get rid of) I'm getting another 6105, and a 6205 w a 7096 controller. Here's my question, it's a 220 softy Lps tank. 72/24/30 are dimensions. Do you think I need the 6000 or are the other 3 enough, open rock work as well. Where would you place the pumps and how would u program the 7096?
Thanks
Corey

I think the 2 6105 are enough on there own. For LPS and softies I would set them up with the wide flow housing and 24V, one in each back corner aimed to the front 5ft away. I would use Interval mode and use the idle function of the new software update. I would do a 6hr interval and 3 second pulse form 30-100%.

You don't think the 6205 should be used?
What about flow along the back wall? What does interval mode do?
Corey

2 6105's running with the 24V jumper can run a 180 gallon SPS tank, and softies and LPS need lower flow so they should be able to handle a 220 with these inhabitants. With the wide flow housings 6205.130 (included since November, available as an accessory for older pumps for $33) the pumps will cover 5ft by 3ft. Interval mode with idle will run one pump pulsing and the other will idle at 30%, after 6 hours they will switch off. You can use the 6205 if you want but I don't see it being necessary, I would start with the 2 and add it only if needed.

ok, well the guy isn't selling them now for some reason so I'm looking for another 6105 again to replace my 6000
you don't sell refurbished ones do you
thanks roger

We do when we have them, but I usually only have refurbs after trade shows where we set up a display tank.

Roger can I achieve the same "wave" motion via the pumps as w a wavebox or is the WB better to get that motion? I'm debating on another pump or WB now since the guy isn't selling his pumps I'm back at square one
Corey

The wavebox is more efficient at producing a wave because it combines the effect of the pump with the displacement of the box. 2 opposed pumps however can also produce a wave, 2 6155 would be roughly equal to the wavebox in effect, but this varies with tank size since the run time affects the amount of displacement.

ok with the WB do you think the 6105 should be enough for the softy/lps tank. also how much lower then the lip of the tank does the water level need to be.

It probably would, it would be weak, but the biggest problem would be that the magnet holder won't be strong enough to be really secure on large tank.

Rehash this topic. 2 6105's on a 7096 controller. 220 gallon softy lps tank with fairly open rock work I'm looking at best pump placement to eliminate dead spots. Tank is 6 ft long. I have tried the opposite corners angled downwards toward the other corner and it works good but far back corners are somewhat stagnant or very little flow. I was thinking both on the back wall faced directly forward causing the water to almost roll in all directions. That should cover all corners in the tank but what mode would I use on the 7096
Thanks
Corey

In general this is not very efficient as a direct hit causes a lot of turbulence and less flow, a glancing hit, with a slight angle, produces a better result so back corner to the front two feet away will produce more of a swirl than a direct hit. I would use Interval or Pulse mode.

So back corner to front panel about 2 ft away and let the water sort of "slide" down the glass?
I'll give it a try
Thanks
Corey

Yes, you can try different angles, but in general bouncing straight back is less effective than some angle to slide the flow down.
