Saw those a couple of days ago. They do look cool, but the mounting restricitions might not do that pump any favors.

Out of curiosity, what makes these things so much better than Tunze? They seem to operate the same way to a point, and you still have to buy a multi controller. Not trying to be facetious, I am just trying to figure it out.
I followed the threads when these were introduced for testing. At that time, they did not have any controllers for them, but said they were working on them. Sorta looks like they have them now. The good thing about them, is they are 2 seperate pieces attached by a magnet.
Scott, no holes are drilled thru the glass to make them work. Put one piece in the tank, the other on the outside and the magnet holds them together. The part with the motor is outside the tank so there are no wires in the water or heat from the motor. I have been debating getting a couple of these over the Tunze. Now that a controller is going to be offered, looks like I may get a couple. Melv in Dallas was one of the beta testers, I sent many PM's to him about them. They look like a good pump to have so far.

The company, EcoTech Marine invented and makes the VorTech pumps.
IceCap has exclusive distribution rights, backs the product and will be offering an accessory shortly. The add on will be a 24 - 36 hour backup battery that keeps the pump running in the event of a blackout. When power returns, it automatically switches back to your AC power source. The speed controller that comes with the pump is already wired to accept the backup power source.
I have had the pleasure of testing one on my 180G reef and find the ease of use and powerful water movement addictive.

The Pump comes complete and can be installed in minutes.
There's the inside the tank section with propeller, finger guard and magnetic back.
There are silicone pads to protect the tank walls from ever getting a scratch.
An adjustable boot to customize the space between the motor and the propeller's magnet is included.
The Motor has a long cord to the speed controller.
The controller accepts two inputs, one from the AC/DC converter (which is not at the plug but in-line) and one from the optional battery backup.
Install the two halves of the VorTech Pump on respective sides of the glass, line them up and plug every thing in. The transformer has a small green LED to indicate it's working. The controller has a green and red LED to tell you if everything is OK. If the pump halves are ever separated the pump stops. It comes with cord supports to prevent the pump from falling if tugged by a child.
The Pump is good to go up to 3/4th of an inch of tank sides. At 5/8th or 3/4th of an inch only the pads are needed, not the adjustable spacer.
There are monster threads on the Pump on our RC forum. To adjust the speed from 3K G/P/H down to a trickle just turn the dial on the controller. The multiple controller will be released asap but as is, can be put on wave maker as long as on/offs cycles are a minute or longer.

Wow! Awesome video. Maybe I should get one for my 29g and skip the Mag 7 return and all the powerheads :lmao:
