New QT Tank

I have decided to set up a quarantine and have read through the stickies. I am undecided whether or not to have a full time up and running QT or one ready when needed. For the a QT that is ready when needed I will need some kind of biologically active filter ready to go and it is recommended to run a filter in a sump which I do not have so this is my first question if I do not want to run this in my DT what are my other options?

If my only option is just keeping a tank running all the time would any of you object to an all in one system like the fluval edge? I realize it does not need to be that expensive but honestly I can pick one up for about $160 and would look nice (which is important to me) but if there are inherent issues with that type of set up please let me know.

Thanks in advance...

When I reset my tank up after a move I let my QT run continuously while doing the initial stocking. Once I got my initial stocking done and was not adding fish on a regular basis I set up a QT as needed.

Nothing wrong with using an all in one system for a quarantine tank. Same as separately pieced QT, just simpler.

Most people just use pieced together systems for QT since they'll end up being cheaper.

$1 per gallon under 55 gallons, then cheap hardware.
