I hooked up my new Reef Octopus Bh-100ss skimmer. I just did a freshwater run to see it work. Well after 24 hours it has not blown up and it still going smouth. The one thing I did notice is micro bubbles coming out of the outlet that goes back into the tank. I might have to put filter floss in there to stop them.

in case you didn't know, skimmers don't work at all the same with freshwater as they do with saltwater... you can expect a LOT more bubbles.

if it's a big problem you're best shot is bubble baffels. my skimmer is at one end of my 55g sump and at the other end i have my return pump. the bubbles from the skimmer float up before the reach the return pump. might be the same for you.

Well in that case is there a DIY baffel. Here is a pic of it running in freshwater.

Actually running the skimmer in freshwater for a day is a good thing to do. I did it as per recommendations for the ASM Skimmer club thread here on RC. It helps get all of the manufacturing oils out of the skimmer before you put it in you display tank. It is also said that it helps reduce the "break in" time once you do put it into a saltwater system.

Also, once you put that bad boy into a saltwater tank. The bubbles will be alot finer and you will get less, if any, bubbles coming out of it.

For sum reson the pump has just stopped working. This has happened 3 different times. I take it apart and put it back together and it works fine.

I had that problem with a smaller pump.. I think it has something to do with the Shaft being to large but that is my opinion

I wash all of my skimmers and pumps in Dawn and rinse well-screw the 1 day vinegar FW thing. good luck

freshwater? Huh? Who knew? I just plop it in the tank. I figured there's enough junk in there as it is so it won't make a difference.

Well Ive had the pump up and running in the saltwater for about a week. The pump still was shutting off and then came back on. Ive call the company and they say it has a fail safe sensor in it and if the temp. goes above 80 it will shut down until the temp drops back down. He also said sent it in and they will look at it but all the shipping is on you. (I will be sending it of later today) Here are some pics of it working in saltwater.
