New Reef Tank Setup & Protein Skimmers

Do you recommend running a protein skimmer on a new reef tank start-up. I just added water to my 120 gal. Oceanic Tech Series tank tonight and am trying to decide if I should start up the protein skimmer. What do you think?

what is in the tank besides water? is the rock and sand in there as well?
if so, i would turn it on, skimmer is going to need to to break in.

It wouldn't hurt a bit, especially if the skimmer is new. This will help 'age' the skimmer if it is new. Plus it may give you the time to work out some of the major kinks in adjusting a skimmer.

I would crank it up but I would not run it while adding sand to the system. The sandstorm can be very abrasive.
