40 gallon breeder with 25 gallon sump

I've recently sold a big part of my live rock; although i still have some. I was wondering if it's enough live rock at the moment.

I do have live sand also; i have maybe about 10-20 pounds of live rock left. I've added dead rock in my sump to help the bacteria grow; theres about 20-25 pounds of dead/dry rock in my sump

I'm planning on adding some more dry rock in my display; will that be enough bacteria? (P.S i'm going fishes until dec. 22 due to ICH)
Also, is there such thing as TOO much bacteria?

That's fine IMO. Don't forget, the beneficial bacteria doesn't discriminate. It's covering EVERYTHING that's submerged. Just as an example, if you leave your back glass untouched, this is a biological filter.

Not too much bacteria, just too much to feed it. The food that the bacteria eat will eventually turn into nitrates and you don't want to accumulate those. So don't add too much ammonia or food that will decay into ammonia and you will be fine. Also, no such thing as too much live rock.

Did you really sell LR contaminated with Ich? That is going to add Ich to the tank of whoever you sold the rock to unless they keep it isolated in a system with no fish until the same date as you are waiting till. Dec 22nd. That's a pretty sh*tty thing to do to someone.

I agree with the above about there's no such thing as too much live rock. Then again, live rock untouched can very well be a filter sock that hasn't been cleaned in a long time. (days on end) There's definitely some work envolved to keep it alive, as opposed to a hydrogen sulfide generator. (rock, not the sock)

Oh no LOL. The ich cycle is actually done. It's usually 6 weeks, but it's been 8 weeks, and i'm waiting for 10 weeks on dec 22, Just because i really really want to make sure and to make sure that the fishes in my QT are healthy.

Not to be a downer, but if you gave the guy the ich rock after only 6 weeks, I believe there's still around a 5% chance that it was still contaminated if I remember my studying correctly. Not a big chance I guess and I hope you didn't screw your friend, or I hope you're bigger than them.

If you read my post, it's been a little bit over 8 weeks. I'm still Qt-ing my fishes so up until now it's fishes and I'm not going to be adding until dec. 22.

Recommended is 6 weeks, but 8 weeks to be fore sure, and 10 weeks to be positive.
