New RR 125 want to run Tunze

Roger,

I am really trying to figure out what set up would benefit my Reef the most. I am in the set up stage and have pretty much made up my mind to go with Tunze. I am just confused as to which items I should run. Also why is it that everywhere I go says that it will take ~ 3 weeks to receive anything Tunze? My tank is a brand new AGA MegaFLow 72x18x22. I will be running two Mag 900's for my returns and one Mag 900 for my EV180. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I will be mixing SPS LPS in the beginning. Thank you for your time.

If you haven't bought the Mag 900's I might try to change your mind, they are well built but they pose two problems for a Californian- they run hot and they use alot of power. I would use just the one for the skimmer and then buy one GRI mid sized pump for return, they use a little less power, are air cooled and they don't fall off much from head pressure.

As for why it will take 3 weeks- it depends, skimmers, magnets and some pumps are readily available. The Streams, Electronic pumps and Osmolators we are way behind on. Basically Tunze is a small company and the items are hand assembled. I am expecting some improvement in the next couple weeks as they seem to have caught up in France and most of Europe. In all honesty we are more like 6 weeks behind on 6000 and 6100 Streams and Osmolators. The Osmolators are generally not such a problem but the person who makes them was sick, now two people are on production to try to get caught up. Part of what makes the products worth having is that a lot of time and care is put into assembling them and it is fairly easy for us to find where a mistake happened and fix it.

The 125 is a hard tank to outfit. It is too shallow and narrow to use a 6100 without excessive turbulence stirring up the sand and causing trouble for LPS. It is a bit long for the 6000 where the flow only carries 4ft and yet it is wide enough that the standard electronic can't cover the entire width. I think I would consider a 6000 on either side with a multicontroller and an oceansmotions return or Sea Swirl in the center. Or I would consider having a 6000 on one side and a 7400/2 on the other side in the front corner and the return on the same side in the back corner. This will give you sections for both types of corals. On the side with the 7400/2 and return the flow near the bottom will be more gentle. The side with the 6000 will have both the wide flow of the Stream and the flow of the return and 7400/2 to provide high flow areas for SPS.
