New Salt from Korallen-Zucht??

This is not a new salt, its been around just not in US market, most zeovit tanks use this
salt as is low in Alk .I am glad BRS brought it over, already ordered couple of boxes.

Interesting. Instead of alkalinity, this salt shows:

GCH: 8.2 ° (8.17 ° - 8.40 °)

Is GCH the same as alkalinity? And does 8.2 ° = 8.2 dKh? If so, non-Coral Pro Red Sea salt seems to have a dKH (7.8 - 8.2) that's more in line with the Zeo parameters.

KZ salt has let us down, unfortunately ... it is no longer low alk ... which makes it an overpriced IO salt. it is clean though ...

Hmm, I've never tried either. According to sticky, TMPR salt has alkalinity of 8.5, which seems higher than I would want, but I just put in a "notify me" pre-order for 200 gallons of the ESV salt, which sounds promising.

Before my long hiatus from reefkeeping, I used to dose the ESV "bionic" two-part by hand every morning (along with ESV kalkwasser in my ATO). Don't know where ESV is located now, but when I lived in Bay Ridge (in south Brooklyn), I'd pick up the 2 gallon jugs of Bionic and jars of kalkwasser at ESV's plant off the waterfront in north B'klyn off the BQE to save the shipping charges.

TMPR I like, cause it mixes in FAST and clean ... I used the same brute can for 6 months, with absolutely no residue left ... the higher KH isnt that bad ... on a 30% water change, my KH goes from 7 to 7.5 ... I can deal with that as it wont shock my corals.

ESV ... I get it when I can :) but as u mentioned, I dont like paying for shipping so when not available locally, I get TMPR ...

I am sure there are other good salts out there ... after all, there are only a couple of factories out there, where ALL different salt mixes come from !

I use esv now after trying dd rowa and tmpr and so far my favorite. It is very high in ca at nsw 35ppt. They recommend using it at 34 ppt. Stuff does better there with this salt.

FWIW, I just mixed up a batch of non-CP Red Sea salt and found that alk = 8.4 (with Red Sea test kit) at 1.035 salinity.

The 200 gallon TMPR salt mix is available for $87 with free shipping at DFS. Guess I'll try that next.

never tried Red sea salt.

I use TMPR, or ESV, depending on availability.

Allmost,

I have heard about the KZ salt's inconsistent parameters, so I chose TMPR. Unfortunately, here are my parameters when first setting up the tank. It was overmixed a bit, to about 1.027 with the Milwaukee Digital Refract.

Cal: 480
ALK: 7.4
Mag: 1600
K: 454

Don't know why I am having such bad luck with salts, my Microblift was pretty awful was well. I think I am going to try ESV, I haven't heard any issues with this salt.

Mark did you try to dry mix it a bit ?

not sure if overmixing it caused some precipitation or someting and then diluting it .... ? no Idea to be honest. just guessing.

I wish they would make batches of 25 or 50g, like the bagged RC salt ... that way we could use the whole bag at every water change.

Definitely rolled it around for a while, then used scoops to dry mix it when first opened. I used about 80G worth the first time on this bucket so I would imagine it would have averaged out.
