New salt water is cloudy

I got the salinity up to 1.025 in my brute can for a water change tomorrow but the water is still so cloudy after a day of sitting and mixing. This happened before just wondering if im still good to do a water change?

Everytime I do water changes the new water is cloudy. Goes in the tank cloudy and stays that way for about an hour. The corals slime up big time but survive.

I used to get this when I used Instant Ocean in my fish only tank Once it took almost a week to clear. I've never had that happen with Oceanic, Reef Crystals or MEI. Same water, same makeup process.

what brand are you using? I use ReefCrystals and it is crystal clear going in.

The sliming could be do to a drastic change in parameters depending on the volume of your water change. 10%/week will be less shock than 40%/month.

I would slowly mix your salt water over the coarse of a couple days. It will keep it nice and clear. IMO making corals slime over everytime you do a water change is not smart or good.

I use Oceanic. I mix the salt over 4-5 days once the water comes up to temp. Im useing a Rio2100 pump in a 30 gallon brute. Salt is right. I just checked my refractometer and its spot on.

Used oceanic myself and had this happen a few times as well. Not sure what the issue was but caused no ill effects in the tank.

I think the cloudiness issue has more to do with the method in which the saltmix is added to the water rather than brand. Water should be prepped well in advance of adding saltmix. (Prepped meaning aerated and brought up to temp. I use a Mag7 in a 30 gallon Brute for at least a couple of hours before adding any salt.) Salt should be slowly and evenly added to prepped water. When preparing saltwater like this I've never experienced cloudiness.

that's interesting. I might not have this issue as the RO/DI is aerated with a dedicated pump and heated prior to moving to the salt mixing tank.

never even thought about it!
