New scolys

I traded a guy a few acro frags for a couple scolys this last weekend, a bleeding Apple and a war paint. I always here people talking about feeding them, is that something that I am required to do for long term success? I'm not much of an LPS guy and these are my first scolys. I had to move some rock around to make an area for them that was low enough flow. Hoping they do well

It's not really necessary to feed them as they are primarily photosynthetic. For long term, I recommend feeding mysis maybe twice a week.

You might have better success about 30 mins after the lights go off. Take a flashlight and see if the feeders have came out. It might take couple weeks while it is getting adjusted.

^ + 1 We feed all of our LPS with lights out as they will typically have their feeders out AND they don't get the food stolen by fish.

I like to broadcast feed about 10 minutes before i turn all pumps off and target feed. Helps to get then open and ready to accept offered food.

I hand feed my Scoly 1 to 2x a week with Fauna Marin Ultra LPS pellets.
If you have any shrimp in the tank, then no matter when you feed them, they will steal the food out before they close up.

You need to build on of these to assure your Scoly eats....

Just make sure you drill a few small holes around all sides of the soda bottle so you get water movement through it. I set the bottle in place with the top off...then I throw a small pinch of pellets down the neck, and then close it up. One time a cleaner shrimp beat me to the punch and got inside the bottle before I closed it up. You will be surprised how quicly they can sense food in the tank, and shoot over.

At the moment I'm feeding mine coral frenzy. To have long-term success with scolys it's better to feed them a wide variety of foods.
