New setup...lots of green algae

I have set up a 200 gal new tenecor fish only aquarium, but in the first two weeks all surfaces become covered with a hair-like green algae. I have 3x175 watts MH, 4 x 90watts 50/50 power compacts and six moon light LEDs. MH runs only 8 hours ( 10 am to 6 pm) fluorescents runs from 8 am to 7 pm, and leds runs all night from 7 pm to 6:30 am. All of this suggested for the manufacturer. I have only a few fish (those from my old 75 gal setup).one sebae clown, and three damsels. Parameters are a little odd, but i think this is because the cycles are not running properly yet. Nothing the fish canÃ"šÃ‚´t stand. I clean the "fresh water way" (siphon and bucket) but with such a big tank this is really "$%&%/. any suggestions? TIA

What are the levels of the tank? The fish could be suffering from them since the is cycling.
The algae is being caused from the cycle as well as the lights.
The lights should be on for only a few hours a day during a cycle. Otherwise they will only help the algae grow.

Turn your lights off. The fish do not care whether or not you have the lights on. If you turn them off and leave them off for about a week the algae will head south. Also you can try that phosguard stuff. It takes out phosphates which really cause alga to grow. The mfg of the lights is assuming you have corals. I just recently set up my 90 AGA but I used cured live rock and so far I have just has a small outbreak. Of course the tank has only been up for 3 weeks so I suppose I still have more to go.

Also you may want to get a RO/DI unit and use only pure water. (Maybe you are but you didn't say.)

There are many ways to change water without using the bucket brigade. If you have someone who can help you just get a long hose and a pump and pump the water out of the tank and then pump it back into the tank from your water source. I am assuming you are making salt water in a large garbage can for water changes??? If not I would suggest reading this web site like crazy for additional information.

200 gallon tank is a lot of tank for someone with what I assume is limited experience. I would spend the next couple of weeks just reading like mad to get your knowledge base up.

It sounds like a beautiful tank. I was looking at a 125 gallon Tenecor tank and stand but the price for what I wanted just got to be too steep. As it is I am in this 90 for a whole lot more than I anticipated. But I have everything I need right at the moment. Once I start the corals I will need to devise a kalkwasser method of dosing.

Good luck with your tank. It sounds like it can be a real awesome tank.

What did you mean by parameters being a little odd?

Regards,

Pat

Sounds like new tank syndrome. Everyone gets it. Good advice above as well. I put 9 zebra turbo snails in my tank when I got the algae bloom and they decimated it in less than 2 weeks. I returned them all to the store when there was nothing else for them to eat. No algae since.
