new skimmer comes in tomorrow, any tips??

So tomorrow my new reef octopus extreme xs 160 protein skimmer is supposed to be in. Any tips on set up? First time with a new skimmer and ive heard it takes a couple days start working good? Just wondering? Thanks

I would upgrade to a red devil impeller. My octopus kicks butt with it and I haven't had any restart issues.

this is the newest model with the new psk-600 pump. It came in and im going to rinse it the put it together and stick it in my sump. Looks like some futuristic device compared to my old one!!!!!

got it hooked up and running Wow..... is all i can say compared to my old one!!! Its like a foam party in my skimmer!! Sooooooooo many bubbles. My old one made a big bubble then a some small ones in between,this one does tiny,tiny ones, little ones, bigger ones, all at the same time!! So much more room for the bubbles in the bigger neck and body!! Im impressed so far,easy to set up.
One thing i dont like is it dosent have a filter for the pump..or is it needed?
Do you guys have a filter on your skimmer pump? I have filter socks on my return so is it necessary? I have a filter on my return pump also? And i had one on my old skimmer pump,but it came that way. does that just slow flow?
O and i have it set for the bubbles to stop about half way up in the neck in the skimmer cup is that ideal? Didnt really say how high you want the bubbles to go or how deep to keep the water in the sump also. I have about 8-9" of water in their.

That's great! I have an ASM and I don't have a filter on the pump. Mine sits in about 10.5" of water and the bubbles go a little past the halfway point on the skimmer cup. I get about 1/2" of skimmate a day. I empty the cup every other day.

nice, so yeah i think im going to roll with no filter on their and just make sure i stay on top of changing out my filter socks. Thanks for the input!!!!!!
