well i have been building a skimmer for a while. then my tank leaked so i stopped. but i just bought a dart needle wheel skimmer used from a RC member. so i think i am going to start up on this project a little. it is nothing fancy. i looked at building something like a reeflo orca 250 a while back and then found out how much a 12" piece of cast acrylic cost. well i was at the local plumbers shop working on some stuff and in the junk pile there was a 12" piece of PVC just laying there i asked if i could have it. I took it home cut it square on both sides. I also got a 6" piece i cast from dewayne at reef fx. so two pieces of the skimmer without spending any money yet not bad.
the two pieces of tubing.
I also bought a twist lock flange from geo. it even came with an extra o-ring.
the part i was most nervous bout was making the cone. i wanted to do this first so if it was a bust i did not spend a munch of money for nothing. first i made two diffrent pieces of plywood to Sandwich the acrylic between them throw it in the oven and then use the wood cutout to form the cone.
the finished product not bad for a first timer.
