New Skimmer

Well, after running this for a weeks to come up with an opinion, I thought I'd post a few pics and throw out some thoughts on my new Deltec 851. While they are pricey, it is an amazing skimmer, the amount of stuff this pulls out, while using only 52W of power, is quite incredible. I would say it is pulling out 2-3times the amount of my old skimmer, while using 1/3 the power!

It is being gravity fed from one of my overflows, seems to produce much better this way, I fed it with a pump the first few days until I had the time to plumb it in.

This is after 30hrs of running, may not seem a huge amount of skimmate, but it is much more than my old skimmer would have collected and the smell would about knock you to the ground:)

My answer to the question, are they worth it, is yes they are.

Heres the Deltec website:

http://www.deltecusa.us

We do have a local dealer who can save you some cash, never sure what I can and cant say on here, but shoot me a PM and i can get you in contact if you are really interested.

I actually bought mine slightly used, like 2-3wks old for $950.

Very nice Allen!!! I for see a Deltec trend hitting the club at full force... :D They sure do seem to be worth every penny. Just can't wait until I can save enough pennies for one of my own. :p

If I spent as much on my car as I do my aquarium, I'd be driving a Lexus at the very least. As it is, that skimmer cost $300 more than the car I am driving..:D

And that is no lie! I've seen his car.  Sorry Allen, just joking with you. :)

Congrats on a great skimmer. I hope you don't become a Deltec snob now that you're getting "nog" and not skimmate anymore.

Sorry Allen, just joking with you

Thats ok, I wasnt kidding, it is a piece of junk, but hey it gets me to work and back:)

Did you know that Deltec nog is awesome on ice cream..:eek1: :lol2:

I guess crappy cars and reefkeeping go hand in hand.

I own a cherry 86 Plymouth Grand Fury. The "grand" fell off the back and the muffle is in the trunk. So I guess it is just a Fury now.

I'm "buying" a 88 Pontiac Sunbird from a family member this month too.

So I am in the "that skimmer cost more than my two car" club too!

It's nice to be in a club with people with the right priorities

I can see Eric now on the street corner with his cardboard sign.."Simmerless...Will work for Deltec".

No he'll be like the guy at my old highschool walking around picking pop cans out of the garbage cans and the backs of peoples trucks while his 3 legged dog "Lucky" follows him around! :D

Here's mine after 12 hours of running and it's not even broke in yet. The bubbles are still quite a bit larger than my AP1003. I tried the Overflow feed, but had to take it off as it was surging. I need to plan it out a little better. Works pretty good with the pump feed though IMO.

Hey, I didn't get a cap on my output like you did????

Chris, I made that out a Sch.80 1 1/2" cap, I found that the inside diameter of 1.5" was the same as the outside diameter of the tube on the Deltec, so I just put a little 1/2" piece of pipe inside the cap, drilled a hole in it to keep it from siphoning and slid the whole thing on.

Na those are some left over ORA's I have. I have a pair of onyx and a pair of black oscellaris though I'm going to see what happens. None of them are old enough yet.
