New SPS From Nowhere?

Ok, this is going to sound weird so bear with me.

I have a 3 yr old rock in my tank that has brand new sps growth coming outs of the rock in a place which has NEVER had a frag on it. It has beautiful colors too so I'm floores to be honest. Its about the size of half a dime right now.

Has anyone ever experienced anytbing like this?

Usually a small frag from some where may have broken off, launched itself towards other rocks. It'll thrive mysteriously in the background until it surprises you, as a large colony.

Not too common, but it has happened.

I'll try to take a pic today and post it up. Thing is it doesn't look like anything else in my tank... Very weird!

Here's what it looks like. Apologies for the bad pic as I took it with my Android. It's green/purple with pink tips. Looks pretty cool and I'm keen to see how this coral grows in.

Definitely Mojano, that's not good.

Thought you meant SPS's, this is more in the fields of LPS if that.

You may need to go through rigorous procedures to remove that pest.
Don't let anything touch it, even fish will get stung.

I don't think so guys. It looks nothing like mojano, it's a poor picture. I'll take another with my camera today under the halides. It's sps, like I said, it's green and purple with bright pink on the tips. AND it has polyps. It looks nothing like the mojano I saw under google images.

Could it be poccilopora? I've had that reproduce in an old system of mine..
I found new colonies sprouting in my sump..

Again, not a great pic, taken with my phone and zoomed all the way in because it's so small. You can clearly see polyps and the colors. What do you think?

I'm surprised anybody could tell what ANYTHING was from the first pictures. Did you happen to get your live rock from somebody else? I have had just a few polyps, to having a little bit of the encrusted grow into a mini-colony.. At the moment, I found a sunset monti that came on a piece of LR that I am bringing back to life

To be honest, I don't remember where I picked up that particular piece but I was from on online retailer for sure. I didn't get any of my rock from other hobbyists.

That's really cool about the sunset monti. I'm looking forward to this guy getting bigger so I can figure out what it is.

The first acro I ever maintained came in on a piece of live rock I'd had in the tank for about 3 years. This was back in the late 90's and had it not been for FAMA magazine, I would've never known what it was. Good luck with yours.
