So we went shopping yesterday and brought back two new peices, a big zoo colony with a unknown hitchiker, and a nice softie piece for the nano, i took some shots with my new digi cam too, but i couldnt get them to fit on reef central becuase the file size was too big so the pics are posted here....

This is my first zoo colony, and i did a suggested anti-flatworm/nudi dip before adding this piece to my tank using RO water with a couple drops of iodine, ph at 8.2, dip water at 78. for 5 minutes with a little swishing and swirling to dislodge any parasites. Fortunatly i did not see anything but amphipods come out. However there seems to be a maroon red colored hitchiker, it appears to be a small anenome, any suggestions?(close up pic included) My bright lights were off for the day when i took these pics, and the zoo was still recovering from the dip but tomarrow ill post some brighter pics when they are all open. The second piece is a yellow color softie for our nano tank but we still are not exactly sure what it is....? BTW if i end up fragging any FMAS members will get first dibs since yall have been such a great resource for me ill return the favor.
Best Regards!

Eric i know its not aptasia, could it be a blood red morph of manjano? since i've been at work its moved off the colony and it almost looks like a tiny BTA....

yes it is bad.i had the same thing in my 15g and i asked my lfs and the guy thier told me its bad i just dont know wut it is called so all i did was cut it of take out the rock it was on and chipped off the little piece it was on so it dont come back.

So its a red nuicence anenome of an unknown type?
If thats the case ill nuke it with buffer, id rather not have lil pieces of nuisence anenomes coming back if i scrape it or chip it...

mine was green. but he didnt call it anything like a anem. he said some scientific name and told me to get rid of it cuase of some toxins. i hope i was not foold. LOL. ask chrisaggie

I'm being forced to not nuke it, (damn i love nuking stuff) becuase i was threatened with death. I'm putting it the ball and chains tank and ill enjoy saying i told you so later.... In return i get the tiny white and brown starfish that came out of the other piece we got yesterday.

I'd say let it grow for a couple of weeks, see what it turns into. Hard to tell from the picture... I live close by, if you really want I could stop by one night and see if I could ID it for you.

manjano.. thats what I 1st thought of it when I saw the pictures. Anyways, yeah nuke it. They look pretty, but as soon as they walk on your zoos and xenia... kiss it good bye. I've seen them in other peoples' tanks and it doesnt bother other corals.... but then again their tanks are HUGE!

ok try these pics they are a little better, there is one decent shot of it (the hitchiker) from the end angle of the zoo piece... for best view use a zoom tool on the pic to see the arms up close
anyone know this type of zoo?, and can confirm the other type of coral?

Here are a few shot on a seperate site for the "suspected red manjano" http://ryanseared.blogspot.com/

It is a majano, from what I can tell. Is it in a lot of flow in that pic? I can't tell the exact shape...maybe a different angle. I have these in my tank and they have harmed absolutely nothing. They do propagate fast and spread in spots you wouldn't think they'd be, but they are cute and a good filler for the tank. When I get my big tank up and am able to be more selective, they will not be in it. But they are pretty cool and there are people here on RC that love them. Some will trade you if you have some they do not.

Kinda cool i found one odd out zoo in the colony thats more grey/biege than the others, i call it the general, the others are the army... they look like they are in camo... lol Camo polyps?

So guys tell me, why is it considered concieted to ask for the "common name" of a zoo, but not other corals? My post in the zoo forum generated this comment:

Well, rather than focus on petty concieted thigns such as what zoos you have, and how rare they are, most people are trying to help you maintain a healthy tank. That anemone will spread, and spread, until your tank is overrun, and can kill all of your corals. I know you said that it was gone, but there will still be pieces of flesh, and smaller ones that budded from him, and blew away. They are never "just gone".

I never asked about anything like how rare or expensive are they. And i had previously mentioned i removed the anenome whole. This guy seems to think i shouldnt be posting questions about zoo's in the zoo forum or something and that i must not know how to remove pests from my tank. Im disturbed at how much people get upset over zoo's in particular.....
