New sun coral

Picked up a great sun coral at the Fish Bowl this evening. The thing is incredible. It is about the size of a baseball when open and has both the yellow and orange varieties of polyps (40-50 total). It has been out of the bag less than an hour and it is already fully extended. I want to post a pic or two but my camera battery is dead. I will post one by the weekend.

We got one from there too about 8 months ago...love it!!! Very full and healthy looking. Usually you see them with only a few polyps but theirs are so full. Here's a pic of ours. Can't wait to see yours!

Beautiful! I love those, I took a picture of mine and put it in my digital picture frame and everyone thinks they are flowers. (they dont realize it is my fish tank)

Finally got the camera working (actually a replacement).

and a top view, the top of the Aquapod is open so the lighting isn't so great.

I've heard at one MACNA there is a certain type of food that seems to help with the reproduction/growth of the Tubastraea.
Anyone else remember? I want to say it was Knop presentation. The one he talked about men tend to go tech and women have less gadgets, the use of Vodka,ect... This was a womens tank. I want to say Bostons MACNA?

I don't know about cheap, I guess that depends on the size of your wallet! The orange/peach variety are easily found, the all yellow are a little more difficult. You can get them from a couple of polyps to 2 or three times the size of mine fairly easily. They are not photosynthetic and should be fed meaty foods every few days.

I use cyclopeeze for my sun coral. I turn off the pumps, mix a little cyclopeeze wih salt water, then using a turkey baster i feed each head.

Nice!! they look a lot better than my dendro :(, I can only enjoy my dendro at night, beatiful if I can get it to open during the day.

There is a black variety too. We feed ours mysis with a big 60cc syr. Try to get each head. It's neat to watch. Sometimes you can see a few mysis shared between 2 polyps.

Would you ever frag it, or could i buy like just one or two polyps? That is a cool coral that i could have, and it wouldnt be affected by the lights. That is cool, PM me if you can do anything.

Thanks

Got it from SITC, she has cool things like that all the time and can usually frag them for good prices...probably cheaper than I could get you a frag for. You can go to her website and post in the items wanted forum...she responds pretty quick and can usually get what you want if she doesn't have it on hand.
