New Tank 240 G Wide - Planning suggestions and advice

So I've had reef tanks for about 25 years now. The latest is a 155 bow front. It was once plummed to another 60 gallon for equipment (mostly a big euroreef skimmer then to a 30 gallon refug and then a 50 gallon sump. A couple of years ago we had the dechero storm and I lost power for a week and lost EVERYTHING. if i fragged everything it would be thousands of dollors worth of lps and sps lost ) : i had UPS power that kept me for two days but not a week. a generator will be in the mix this time!
So I got more LR and started it back up. I have gone really slow and tried to keep things simple with just a sump and the tank while I figure out what I want to do. i don't even have a single coral right now just 2 little clowns and 2 blue damsels.
So...I'm fairly set on a 240 gallon wide display tank. 8 feet long 2 feet wide and i think 2 feet deep. I want to keep things as simple as possible this time so i'm planning on a large sump that can house almost everything and a seperate refugium.
Lighting will be upgraded from current t5s and 400 MH to 4 Hydra 52s.
Flow will come from two vortech 60 models but here is the first question...will that be enough? I really do not want a closed loop system to add to everything else I have to think about so will the vortechs be enough? i have hydors i can add to the mix to supplement as well. tank will be a mix of lps and sps

I'm in brainstorm mode right now and any suggestions are welcome. I'm looking at getting the tank in a month or so and i'm sure I'll have more questions. Thanks for looking and more questions and pics to come (:

I would add 2 mp40's to the back glass along with the two 60's you have planned

And yes, get a generator

i actually have a 240 wide!

i had a MP40W on the left side of the tank, and it was nice, but it stirred up a little too much sand and also, a MP40 won't push past 3' in a tank… (trust me, i could see corals rocking with them, and at 36" there were softies that wouldn't even budge..)
[i have no experience with the MP60's but i would think you wouldn't be able to use them to there capabilities because of the height limitation between water and sand]

i sold my MP40W for enough money to buy 4 Tunze 6100's (the older ones… but I'm a college student so i was ok with it) and the 6100's push further in the tank and kick up less sand.

i hooked seaswirls to my return lines to get a little randomness.

heres a few cell pictures of my tank a little while back.

in the last picture, one of my 400w lights were off. (i was in the process of hooking a 4th halide to my tank. i originally had 3) and the bulbs were 14k ushio bulbs with no actinics at that time. not to mention i didn't clean the glass haha.

dahenley,

that's good information. thank you. my budget is rather slim so after the tank, stand and lights I'm gonna be eating tuna-fish and peanut butter sandwiches for a while so i decided to stagger the rest of the equipment over a period of time with basically one major purchase a paycheck until ...well about forever but i think it's a good plan!! . I don't have any corals now so no immediate need for a lot of circulation and this way I can think things through as I go

when the driver got close to the drop off/pick up point (truck stop) he called and said he was in a purple Volvo. I was a little confused at first...

You have to give your Facebook images Public access for us to see them here. An easier method is to post your images on an image service like Photobucket or Flickr and link them to here, but the same issue applies - you must give Public permissions on your images for others to see them.

Go into Flickr.

Go to the page that shows the various sizes of your image.

I selected a 500 or 600 size which is suitable for most browsers.

Right-mouse click on the image and select Copy Image Location.

Come back into RC Editor, select the yellow icon, Ctrl+v as before.
