New tank?? 280ish

Thats a SWEET tank. Due to the overflows on your tank i couldn't use it. Dont have the extra room to spare. G/L and cant wait to see what you end up getting

That is a really nice looking tank, looks fat and happy.

I thought it looked kinda of small in the picture :)

I've gotten Prices from everyone I'v checked with so far.. Have no idea what I'm going to do lol BTW the above tank would be 300 Gallons counting the two overflows! Whoo hooo

Glass cages and perfecto were about half the price of Miracles. Aquarium Obsessed was in the middle. All these tanks would be built different though.. Everything from the Glass thickness to the overflows so its hard to decide..

GC is tempting just because they are cheap and I can go pick up and inspect the tank in person before its at my door.. Even though it seems they have gotten much better on their large tanks I just dont really trust them..Besides their tank would have to have cross braces and internal overflows since they dont do Euro bracing or External overflows..

A.O. Isn't looking bad. I'm still waiting to find out what shipping would be. Untill I get that I really dont know what their exact price is.. I'm a little worried about the fact they seem a little slow to respond. Plus when I requested a quote I included my Shipping address yet they didn't give me a price with shipping :rolleye1:

Miracles Cost more, But their tank comes with a Tempered 5/8" back and rear panel..A.O.s tank is with a 5/8"s Standard glass rear and a 3/4" Bottem panel. From what I understand Tempered glass is 4x stronger then standard glass. So it should be a plus over the A.O tank. They were pretty quick to get back to me. They also included pictures and gave me price with shipping..

Why would the back need to be tempered any more than the front or ends?

The two External overflows. Since they notch the glass out for them. The notches are at the top and are something like 24" by 2"tall then they have removable Acrylic teeth. They dont have to temper it, so its not like the A.O. tank isn't built well. Miracles just said they like to overbuild their tanks to increase the safety factor My 190 has a 5/8 Tempered bottem and rear panel also. Shows you how overbuilt it is since its got the same glass as a 300 lol.

 Got miracles down 400 bucks and they will provide a lift gate on the truck. Since the shipping weight of the tank and crate is around 800LBs thats a plus lol

Haha Shannon didn't like the idea of me rebuilding the Stand and canopy! Not even a little bit. I think I've got her ok with it now.. She still likes the idea of just putting the new part into the equipment room and keeping the stand a canopy as is.. I told her I would built the new one to look just like the old one if she wanted..So that seemed to smooth it over..She likes the look of the one we have plus she was worried about me busting up tile ect ect.. No faith shesh

Well Since one of the tanks I'm looking at has two external overflows that are 21"long by 19"tall. With only about a 14" or so gap between them in the middle a closed loop like I have on my Current 190 could be a little tough. I'm also thinking with a wide tank, access to the back of the tank from the back could be a little more important. Anyway I was thinking about maybe doing a smaller closed loop through the Euro Bracing on the top and maybe a couple of Tunze to take up the slack.

I found a Pair of Tunze 6101s with magnets used for a pretty good price so I went ahead and got them to give them a try. I figured I'd play with them in my 190 and see how bad they looked and to help me figure out whats needed for the 300.

They came in today.. They aren't small by any means when I first saw them I figured I'd HATE them in the tank.. But after putting them in they aren't that bad. You do notice them though. I think in the larger tank they won't seem so big.. So far I'm pretty impressed with them.. Each one is rated for 3,179GPH. I've got a dart thats rated for 3600GPH and I've got to say they seem to have about the same flow..With Both Tunze turned up full blast my tank looks like hot tub lol Even on low they move alot of water.. Infact thats what they are set on now.. The coolest thing is on low they pull all of 11watts!!! Full blast they pull 35watts. I'm Pretty impressed with the wattage compared to flow.

They don't look bad at all Will. And, with them being Tunzes, it's kind of like leaving your luxury sedan parked in the driveway where it can be seen instead of in the garage...it just lets everyone know you've got the goods. :D
I checked on those Tunze magnets at Marine Depot. They're supposed to work on .74" glass. Should work on 1/2" acrylic, huh? A Tunze with a magnet might be something for me to save up for.

The heavy duty magnets are VERY strong.. I hurt my finger with them lol.. Like an idiot I had one in each hand walking and let them get to close.. SLAP. I was amazed at how far away the pulled together.. The 6101s Move a ton of water. If you want one just keep an eye out on the used Equipment forum.. It only took me about 2 weeks to catch a good deal. I saved 180.00 bucks on these from retail with free shipping.. If you really want some and want to wait.. Tunze has new 2.0 Streams that are suppose to be out at the end of the summer.. Once those hit stores I'm sure the old Tunze pumps will come up for sell all over the place.. The new ones are smaller and look like the Tunze Nanos. They also include the magnet like the nanos.

I really needed to play with some before I ordered my new tank so I couldnt wait. But I'm sure alot of people with pretty new Streams will be selling them just to buy the latest greatest. You could probably get a great deal..

I have been eyeing Vortechs to replace my big Seio and Koralia 4 powerheads. Tunze and Vortech are coming out with new models this summer. I will be keeping my eyes out for them.

Tomoko

Tomoko if you have any luck i'd be interested in a Koralia 4 when/if you're going to get rid of it.

hehehe now i'm hijacking Will's thread, where's Mariner?

I've also got a Vortech on the way.. It should be here today or Tomorrow.. Its the 2 Gen with the Wireless controller. I'll let you know how I like it. The only Big - with Vortechs is they are loud when turned up.. The couple I've seen are and pretty much everyone on RC tends to agree they are loud above 80% output.. But mine will be on the back wall in the Equipment room so Im thinking it might not matter for me.

So far I like the Tunze pretty good.. You can hear them though. They arent loud. Just a very low hummm when the throttle up and down. I'm just spoiled I guess since my tanks are so quiet. Any little noise stands out. The Tunze connected to my Aqua Controller is VERY kewl though. I was sitting on the couch in the fish room with my labtop playing around with them. Its very kewl to be able to set the exact times down the the .1 seconds for the pumps to throttle up and down.. I can also set it to change depending on the time of day or what else is on in my tank.. IE when my MH lights are on I can have the pumps run 30%-100% Throttle back and fourth.. Then when the lights go off I can set the pumps to go down to say 30%-50% Throttle.. Pretty fun.

Well my thoughts for getting both was I figured the Vortech would go good in the middle of my 300 on the back wall. From what I've seen Vortechs have a very wide gentle output, But they dont seem to shoot as far as Tunze. So Vortechs on the Ends of my 300 probably wouldnt be ideal.. Besides I wouldnt want to be looking at the motor and cord on the side of the tank.. With the Tunze on the side shooting end to end a Vortech in the middle shooting back to front I should have Decent flow without my closed loop on the back wall. Atleast I hope so.

Well my Vortech came in and I got to play with it a little tonight. Its a brand new 2nd Gen. I didnt' even bother looking for a used one since they had so many problems when they first came out. Its not bad. So far I like the Tunze better though. The Vortech is much louder. From what I've read though you have to give it about a week to break in.. So we will see how it does l8r on. It comes with their "Wireless Controller" seems to work pretty good. Although I was scared to leave it on short pulse cause it seemed like it wanted to jump off the glass:eek2: Another issue that is suppose to get better after break in. It does take up less space in the tank but more on the outside. Since I'm going to put it on the back wall thats a plus! The main draw back I figured out pretty quick though.. If you want to redirect the flow at all. You have to move the entire pump including a ziptie you stick to the side of the tank with double sided tape to hold the cord and catch the motor incase it falls. I tested the wattage on low and high same as I did with the Tunze. The vortech is rated for 500-3000GPH and 9-28watts. On low I got 6watts and On high 30watts so just like the Tunze they seem to rate the wattage pretty spot on. Here is a couple pics of it. Including one of it beside a Tunze.

Small update. The Vortech seems to have broke in a little.. Its still a little loud, But when its set to pulse for wave making it doesnt try to jump off the side of the tank now lol. I still haven't played with the pumps very much simply cause I can't turn them all up. As is I've got my closed loop running both tunze and the vortech. The Tunze are set to 70%max and the Vortech is down at something like 20-30%. You would think it would be to much flow but really everything looks better then ever..

The tank is a done deal.. Infact they are already building it. It will take about 6 weeks before I get it. I got Mircles to build it. Its going to be Starphire on the front and sides 72"Long 36"Wide 25"Tall. Euro Braced with 2 External overflows that are 22"x6"x19". So total volume with overflows is just over 300 Gallons! I almost made it a little taller, But everyone that has tall tanks seem to wish they didn't soo that kind of convinced me to just make it 1" taller then my current tank.

I'm thinking I'm going to build the stand out of steel this time. I plan on covering it inside and out with wood. My main reason for this is so the back can be open. I dont want ANY braces in the back like I have now.. I just can't do that with wood. Not without making it Very thick which would be worse then a couple of braces. So my thinking is 1.5" square Tube frame. Should be very strong.
I'm thinking about building a new sump to replace the 75 gallon I use now. The 75 is a little to tall and will be very narrow compared to the new tank. Here is a couple pictures of what I'm thinking for the stand and sump. Don't laugh at my awesome paint skills.

what are you doing with your old tank?

:)

Its for Sale :) Jason said he had a guy that wants it. But I haven't talked to him about it yet. So as of right now its still for sale. But since My new tank isn't going to be here for 6 weeks Im not in a huge hurry to sell it. I guess I should go ahead and post it though..If it doesn't' sell then it will probably replace my 125 at my office! Miracles said used tanks around 4-5 years old sell for about 75-50% of their original cost depending on scratches, ect. My 190 is 3 years old. Has one very little scratch at the very top of the tank that due to either me or shannons button on our jean when we first setup the tank lol. I paid 2,300 for the tank new I'd take 1000 for it. So thats a little less then half what I paid and about 1500 bucks cheaper then a new one lol (They went up)

I also plan on selling 3 LumIII Mini reflectors, my OM 8way, The pump that runs it. (Reeflo Barracuda) Also probably my 75 gallon sump

I think the 8way is sold
The pump, probably ask 200 for it. Its 299.99 new
The Reflectors 100 Each 129.00 New

Of course if someone wanted it all they would get priority

I am very tempted.... Do you deliver?

Tomoko

Haha  I could probably manage Curb side delivery. But to be safe it takes atleast 4 guys to move it in and around a house. Its not THat heavy. Me and one of my friends moved it around the room. (Big Friend Btw) But trying to get in doors ect its just to dern big and heavy. A couple have already asked about it. Again though I'm not in a hurry. It would need to stay here for atleast a few weeks. Between my other tanks and my 100Gallon stock tank and can take the 190 down pretty easy and I plan on doing so before the new tank gets here. But I want to leave it running till a little closer till time for the new tank to get here.
