Well at least its in the garage. Now all I have to do is get the stand done, install the skylight build the light shaft. Stain and poly the stand and canopy..Install the canopy and the lift system, Then fill the tank up and move all the live stock over. Oh yeah and fix the hole in the wall lol.

How much does it weigh? Did you rent a fork lift to get it off the truck? How are you going to get it on the stand?

Well I was told with crate it had a shipping weight of about 800LBs. Yeah I rented the skid loader just to off load it, Since the tank was shipped on an 18 Wheeler with no lift gate. First problem with that is an 18 wheeler can't turn into our driveway. Since our drive is a little on the long side that ment if we off loaded by hand we would have to load onto my truck or a trailer then drive it to the house then off load it again. Plus with out a lift gate getting it out of the back of a semi would be a challenge to say the least. I requested that miracles ship it on a smaller box truck with a liftgate. Or at the very least a truck with a lift gate.. The tried for about a week to locate a truck with a liftgate with no luck. So I told them if they could give me a few hours notice I could have a skid loader on sight. They also agreed to cover the rental fee since they couldn't come up with a lift gate. All in all it worked out great.. The biggest issue I had with off loading it by hand even with a lift gate was its pretty hard to get several guys on a weekday to sit around and wait for a truck. Sure I could have hired some guys but by the time I did that I could just rent the lift and do it my self.

When it comes time to load it on the stand I plan on just getting enough guys together to do it.. With out the shipping crate it should be much lighter. Besides I can decide the time so it won't be at 1:00 on a monday lol I really don't think its THAT heavy. I'm sure Its not going to be easy haha. I tried to pick the end up by my self but my cheap suction cups broke :)
 
I think it's kinda odd that the manufacturers of large tanks don't publish (or don't want to publish) the weights of their tanks. I bought my 190 in '95 from a pet store in Mobile. They couldn't tell me how much it weighed (just that it's pretty heavy). I found out that it was made at a company over in Pascagoula, MS and called them. Nobody there knew how much it weighed.

When I moved them from Mobile I rented a truck with a lift gate and hired 4 guys from 2 Men and a Truck on both ends to load and unload them. Now that's the way to do it, just point to the place on the floor where you want it!
 
They told me the shipping weight I just didn't think to ask what it would weigh out of the crate. My 190 is pretty heavy. Me and one other guy moved it before, but you really need 4 guys to carry it very far.. When I moved it out I had me plus 4 other guys here. Only 4 of us carried it and it wasn't bad since we just had to go straight out of the room and set it down.. The 310 will be a little harder since its to wide to go through the door so we will have to flip it, carry it in then flip it back. My biggest concern is the equipment room is pretty small. Tank plus guys don't leave much room. Only Two guys can go through the door side by side. I'm thinking about building a Cart to set the tank on and roll it into the room. Still plan on having several guys, But thought that would help carry the weight going through the door and while turning it.

haha I don't know I'd never be able to just sit and watch them move my tank.
 
I can't remember, do you have a "threshold board" at the door to your equipment room? Mary Ruth found some round plastic things like a real thick frisbee with foam on one side that you put a heavy piece of furniture on and then push it. It slides pretty easily. They are called "Moving Men". Maybe you could put it on a tarp or really heavy piece of carpet and push/pull it to slide it through the door.
 
Haha yes I've got some moving men. I've even managed to wear some clean through the plastic :). I've got some heavy rubber casters with swiviels setting in the shop. They have 4-5" wheels. I'm thinking about building a cart out of the wood from the shipping grate with the four casters on it to help hold the weight while moving the tank..I do have a threshold. Hinesight is 20/20, But I've wised a few times when I move my trash can out full of SW that I had removed the threshold before I installed the door. I figure if I do the cart we can just lift the ends up over the threshold. If we didn't have to flip the tank to get it in the door then flip it back I wouldn't even be worried about it.. But trying to Turn the tank in such a small space will limit how many guys can get their hands on it.

Very nice tank Will. It puts some of the tanks put on display at MACNA XX to shame.

Where did you get the rubber casters with swivels from?

Thanks! Oh lol I have no idea.. They have been in my shop under my bolt bin for a couple of years. They are in the "Miscellaneous section" I've never used them for anything figured this could be a good reason to knock the dust off them.. I need to check what the weight rating is on them though.. They are pretty heavy duty from what I remember.
 
Got a little done tonight. The wood work is done on the stand for the most part.. I still have to stain and poly it and after I set the tank on it I plan on adding a shelf around it like the old one with tile inlayed into it. Makes for a good place to set fish food and helps catch any drips down the side. I also got FRP glued down to the top. I plan on putting the finish on the stand before I cut the hole above it for the skylight. Here is a few pics

LoL thanks. Its getting there slowly. Its all the little stuff that eats up time. That and I"ve only worked on it two nights out of the whole week haha. Tonight if I get home in time I plan on building the frame for the light shaft. 20% chance of rain this week end so not a good time to install the skylight. But once I get the Shaft built and inplace I can mark the exact place on the ceiling where I want the skylight. If we do get rain the attic should be much cooler place so I'm going to see If I can go ahead and start framing out the hole. Looking at an empty tank sitting in the garage.. Well two empty tanks really is killing me..

I thought about it, But I've still got some of the same tile I used before that I bought on close out for like 10cents a tile haha. I do plan on making the shelf a little wider this time though.
 
I do have some marlborough left over from when I added the fireplace. I think it might look pretty good inlaid into the shelf. That or I can use the slate like on the other stand. What looks better to you guys?

Here is what the canopy looks like on the stand.. That wood frame is the same size as the tank. I wanted to get the canopy in place before I build the light shaft.. Plus when I start installing the lift I'll need it.

Well we have a small bump in the road. I got the frame for the light shaft built and installed. Marked the corners went in the attic to make a list of what wood I needed for the framing. Well while taking a closer look at what cables need to be moved, ect. Low and behold while I was moving the insulation a nice big 3" pvc line right in the freaking way. Don't know how I missed it when I first checked above the tank for any obstructions. Its the Drain to my sons bathroom upstairs.. It connects to a toilet and a sink. I think I can move it But that means I have add 4 90 degree bends in the line.. I'm a little concerned that this could effect the drain. The deal is I need to move it over about 6" run 6-7' of pipe then move it back. Its either that or have a nice 3" pvc pipe run across the back of my light shaft :( Any plumbers out that with opinions on this? Right now it seems I have two options either move the line or go with some 14" solar tubes instead of the skylight.

I guess I could use spaflex for the drain. Thought didn't even cross my mind. I can get sweeping 90s also. My biggest concern is I'm not sure the drain will still work well with so many bends in such a short length. I looked at it again and I'm pretty sure I can still manage. It was just one of those deals where I knew I already had to move a couple of things. Well the couple turned into a few then the few turned into several lol.
BTW Kiran I think that was you that called me earlier, If so I was in the attic staring at a drain pipe lol.
