New Tank a Little Noisey

New tank (75gal AGA) has been up and running for a few days now and...well its a little noiser than I would like. 2 things in particular.

1. Mag 7 Pump sitting in 30gal AGA Sump.....loud vibrating noise..the pump is sitting directly on the glass. Thinking about putting something underneath the pump to absorb sound and vibrations. Any ideas? Surprises me they dont provide suctions cups or something to mount pump and reduce noise.

2. The Tank came with Corner Over Flow....but with newly designed overflow system for quieter operation.....yeah right. I know when the slime builds up it will help with trickle noise a little but it sounds like a garden hose is running in the corner.

This is my first tank with a sump and overflow so any help would be great.

Oh yeah, was thinking about sound damping material on inside of stand to help cut down on noise or at least contain some of the noise. Anybody have suggestions on that?

On my overflow hose leading to sump, I put a T fitting on the end to maybe slow down flow and quiet flow into sump but it may have made it worse as I sometimes get a chugging noise as water flows into sump. Any sugestions there would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Standpipe in overflow? Valve your drain line to slow down flow? Suspend your mag (Let it hang by the hose?). If you pu t sound dampening material you might thus insulate it and hold more heat? Let me know if you come up with anything, mine sounds like a waterfall!!

I have a scotchbrite pad under my rio in the sump... helps a little. You can also try running a piece of air line tubing down your drain with one end exposed to air for your overflow noise...

The standpipe in the overflow has a rigid airline tube running through it. I am going to try the scotch pad idea and see what that does or if that doesn't do it I could suspend Mag like kb0vhy suggested.

Thanks for ideas....keep'em coming.

sometimes it can also be the opposite how tall is it. i agree put a control valve on it that should damper the noise

You can also buy rubber matting that is used to make rubber gaskets out of at westlake hardware which you can put under the pump. It is water safe and won't leach anything out into the tank.

UPDATE:

Picked up rubber matting and installed under pump. Made a noticeable difference...now just a low humming noise.

Also picked up control valve and installed. When I turned on pump and opened control valve all the way same noise as before. I slowly closed valve about 1/2 way but still remained noisey. So I closed the control valve completely with pump running and then slowly opened the valve about 3/4 way...made a huge difference in noise.

I also noticed in the overflow area that the standpipe that allows water into sump is now entirely submerged except for rigid airline tube that sticks out of top. Noise is dramatically reduced.

Looks like by closing the valve completely with the pump running I removed all the air from the standpipe and hose that allows overflow into sump. No gurgling or gushing of water just steady flow into sump. Awesome.

keep an eye on your overflow box though. Over time algae will devolop and further slow flow in the drain line, and if not kept in check, could slow flow enough to overflow your tank...almost had that accident myself.. just keep an eye on the water level in it. I used a black sharpie, and made a note on the glass where the water level was in the overflow when everything was clean, and once my valve was set..
