new tank algae?

I made a mistake when I first posted PH is 8.2 not 8.5 and all other testing shows nothing. I bought fully cured brazil LR and have been watching all kinds of cool things coming out of it. Now I am getting a mat of brown algae all over some of the rock! should I get some snails to take care of this?

Snails or any inverts won't eat it. It sounds like cyano maybe and its common in a new tank. I have some in my new 75 gallon tank but its getting alot better and now theres not much at all. Theres a pinned thread about cyano algae and how to get rid of it. May not be cyano. There is a brown algae thats common in new tanks but I don't know the name but I know nothing will eat it.

Is it a film? Does it fall apart when hit with a turkey baster?

The brown mat is likely a mixture of diatoms, cyanobacteria, and dinoflagellates. Sometimes more circulation helps, or reduced feeding. Can you post calcium and alkalinity numbers?
