New Tank Concerns

Hey yawl,

My friend just bought a new 330 gallon tank and I was helping him move it and noticed that the Bracing on the top of the tank has a crack, Photo included. Looks like it has been repaired in some way, not sure exactly how. They drilled both ends and filled the crack with something it looks like. The Crack spans across the entire brace and down the back panel about 1/4". Would yawl put water in this tank? Thanks for any impute.

Acrylic tank I assume? If so, I think a thin bodied weld-on injected into the crack should do the trick from what I’ve read over the years.

If the apparent repair you mentioned used weldon 16 (or far less likely #40) it may be ok. Fill it and if there's no spreading, gap doesn't open up any. it's probably ok. Myself, I'd stick a piece of 1/4" over the gap on hte inside using weld-on #40.

Awsome, Thank you all for the comments, I talked him into at least moving it outside to do the initial fill and test for a few weeks before taking the risk in his house.

@Timfish the repair used something injected into the crack as well as drilled the one end to prevent further cracking. Just not sure what was used. Seller stated tank has not been filled for going on 2 years. Not sure if that was pre or post crack/repair.
