New Tank Cycle

I've got the sand, salt and water in the 90G and ready to start cycling. I found a dead snail in my other sump and boy did it smell! (BAD). I've put it in the 90G to help with the cycle, is this going to work instead of a piece of shrimp???

I also have 40G sump with a refugium and 60 pounds live rock in the tank and 15 pounds in the sump. I put 30pounds of live sand and 100 pounds of white natural marine sand. Hopefully the dead snail will not turn out to be a bad thing:eek1:

Im thinking you got enough live rock to start cycling without having to put the snail in there. Either way sounds like youre gonna have a nice tank real soon.

That snail will probably not effect anything in a negative way at all. :)

I've had a couple of snails die on me (margarita snails... didn't know what they were until after I had bought them... ooops! They don't like warm water! :) ) and I couldn't get to them, but the hermits did a little bit and my LR took care of the rest, I believe. Nothing was adversely effected and that was just in a 45!

And YES, snails smell HORRIBLE after they die!

Good approach, Norman. That snail will work fine to kick things up a notch. As Jason said, you probably didn't need it, but it won't hurt at all to add it.

Sweet Norman, you should do a tank diary to show how it has gone since start to finish, I would have done that with mine but my camera captures too much blue from my lighting( man this thing " I " thought was a good one with 10 mega pixels??)

Actually I have, I started taking a picture or 2 when the tank was first set there empty, and finally now have water, sump and LR and sand. I'll try to resize them and put them in my gallery sometime this week. Thanks

Good idea, SnoopTroop...

You should start a blog, Norman. :)

I know Norman! I gots to make it over...

This weekend has been busy, though. Fun stuff (specifically the Symphony... WOW the new hall sounds AMAZING!), but busy. :)

I'll PM ya.

Also, Norman, you may try photobucket for your photos. Its free and gives you a lot more flexibility than reef centrals gallery would. Then again, you could always do both! :)

I saw his setup and although a lot of the parts look real familiar they defiantly look a lot better put together then they looked in pieces.
