New tank filter questions, etc.

Hey, I have a 55 gallon corner tank that I used before our move. I used a bak-pak skimmer and a cascade canister filter. I still have the Aragonite in a container. I don't want a reef tank, just a few fish and cleaners. Do I need to use, both the skimmer and canister filter? Can I use the aragonite, or should I use something else since it's not a reef tank and old? Thanks! Any other suggestions would be great too.

saltwater? I'd be too lazy to use the canister and too cheap to replace the aragonite. With the skimmer, you should be good to have a few fish. Just need to find some water to seed the tank with.
