Hi all-
My husband and I are just starting up our new 29 gal biocube, and have purchased some cured live rock- We have found a few things that we cannot identify, please help if you can. We want to make sure they are good for the tank and receive the best care possible.

It's a bit difficult to identify what we can't see, and with no description. If you can post any pictures that would definitely help. Here's one of several good sites that may be helpful:

And........Welcome to reef central!

And good luck with the cube!

Hi. The pics are pretty small. If you can get bigger ones it would be better. Anyway, I think the 1st pic is a featherduster. Second one is more of a guess - maybe a sponge, hard to tell. Third pic - can't even guess on that one. Hopefully someone else will jump in here with more help.

BTW, photobucket.com is a also great place to upload pics too - free. After uploading, you just click on the bottom image link to copy it, then paste the code into your post, and the picture will show up when you finish the post.

the item in Photo 2 looks fibrous like a sponge, but has a light green coating over the whole top, like a protective dome. Photo 3 appears to have a smooth top and grows and shrinks during the day- it is all white with some pink/purple small areas appearing sometimes.

almost looks like a bleached mushroom coral, extended on it's stalk trying to get light, or else some type of coral. Just guesses.

The first pic looks like a tubeworm/feather duster. They're harmless filter feeders.

The second looks kind of like a sponge, but it's hard to tell from the pic.

The third does look like a bleached mushroom.

Those would have all been my guesses too

I'd almost guess #3 is a cabbage coral (Sinularia sp.). Hard to tell though. I think # 2 is sponge of some sort and if covered in green, its probably some algae covering it, seems like there's a good bit from your pics.

1 feather duster are tubewarm I would take it out it will be everywhere in a short time,2 don't know can't see it,3 it looks like a mushroom, or maybe even a leather,

I concur. :p

But why get rid of featherdusters?

I agree, #1 duster(hard tube)<---no one said that!!! #2 Sponge #3 mushroom of somekind, half dying....and yea, why get rid of the feather dusters? If they all live its a good sign for these new hobbyists..
