Im planning on starting a Macroalgae planted tank housing a dwarf octopus (o. mercratoris*) .

Tank: 26gal bowfront (rimless) & drilled on the left glass pane for inflow and out flow (it sits in the corner of my desk).
Sump: 20 gallon tank under the desk with 400-500 gph return pump (i dont want to have any power-heads or cords leading into the display)
Skimmer: BakPak (left over from the old tanks i had in highschool), will be placed insump or hanging onto the sump
Mechanical Filtration: Filter sock
heater: 100w
lighting: 96w powercompact (Quad)

Overflow: http://www.bigalsonl...r34slipbulkhead
Return flow: 1/2" bulkhead with a verticle spray bar with holes drilled up and down it. there will be about 3 feet from the return pump to where it will go into the tank.

I also plan to get a sheet of glass or acrylic cut to cover the entire top of the tank.

Live rock: 15-20lbs in the display & 15lbs in the sump
Sand: live 20-25lbs for a 2-3" sand bed

Let me know what yall think

p.s. i have also posted a similar thread on TONMO

Couldn't find your thread on tonmo, is it in tank talk? same user name?

The only thing I would recomend is strengthening your cover, a single sheet of acrylic is bound to warp creating gaps. I have just received my first dwarf, it has been in my tank for 2 days. I have posted photos of my tank and cover on tonmo in tank talk tittled merc for my 15. It may look complicated but was very easy to make.

My user name on tonmo is Will and its under octopus care titles "in from the cold"

Im most likely leaning toward a glass top for the ascetics and because it does not warp. i would think that a 1/4 plane of glass plus the weight of a light on it would be able to keep a merc from getting out.

Yeah, I just have 2 light fixtures holding mine down. Saw that thread, would have never guessed it was yours. You can see my new merc journal under "journals" tittled 2 O. mercatoris.

yea i have been following yours, sorry about your loss. how is the big guy doing "zuzu"?

im getting my tank drilled tonight and it will most likely be set up by next week. i may get a piece of glass cut about .7cm larger in all deminsions, so that i can bevel the edges and have a portion of the glass go inside the tank (hard to understand, i know) so that the top is somewhat recessed into the tank.

As far a clean-up-crew, what do you have. Its been about 6-7 years since i had my last octo, and i think i had a couple of brittle stars and a revolving door or hermits and snails.

U?

also how has your octo reacted to your coral/ light cycle?
