New Tank Idea.

So after talking with my wife extensively, she put the kibosh on me getting a 180 gallon tank. But she did concede to a 40 Breeder Display and turning my 29 gallon that I have now into a frag tank. I will be building the stand to hold both of the tanks and will be plumping them into the same system/sump. I'm considering building my own sump or possibly going with a Trigger systems sump. This will be going into my finished basement so I'm not really concerned with chilling the system as the basement stays pretty cool year round. For the lighting I will use the 16 in Sealife LED that I have now over the frag tank and will be getting a 36 in Sealife LED for the display. I'm thinking one of the new Jebao skimmers that are coming out onto the market now. They are made by Coral Box but have Jebao DC pumps on them. I picked up a Glass Holes overflow and a BRS dual reactor for this setup as well. I pretty much want to do the same setup in my 29 gallon display now as the aquascape but have more sand bed to house my chalices. I will post pictures accordingly still in the designing stages now.

I saw that 180 that someone posted over on CTARS and was SERIOUSLY tempted. If I didn't live on the 2nd floor and basically have no place to store it, I might have actually bought it.

I am all for making a sump. None of the commercial ones have all the chambers exactly like I want them.

What size sump are you gonna put on the 40 breeder?

Well I will have the frag tank on the same stand so it will give me some extra room. I would like to put the ATO reservoir under the stand as well. Plus I want to have room for my Dosing setup as well. So I need to do some sketches and see what I'm working with.... But I would like to possibly use another 40 breeder as the sump.

Oh now THAT would be excellent. 80g total volume or would you plumb the frag tank into it as well?

So I decided to use a 40 breeder as the sump. I could get some glass cut to the right sizes and silicone them in place myself. I thought about a 55 but I think I want the width of the 40 breeder. I have a 10 gallon tank I can use as the fuge. I will get a small pump or possibly make a manifold and tee off a line to the fuge. I can drill the 10 gallon so it drains back into the sump. The 10 gallon will be elevated of course.

If I use a manifold, I can run the reactor off of the return pump as well. I'm thinking of the Jebao DC 12000. It's max is around 3000 gph but I will be dialing it back as well as most likely making a manifold.

I also want to use DJ strips for the electronics. I will build a little area for all of the controllers and such. I hope to be getting an Apex for Christmas. So once that is installed I will configure everything to that.

We should draw it out. I have a hard time with descriptions that require spatial orientation.

Thanks to a buddy (SaltyWalter), I have a new idea for the fuge. It still involves a 10 gallon tank but I will have the 29 gallon frag system drain into the fuge then gravity drain into the sump. So the elevated 10 gallon is still a go (Thanks Collin). This way is better, I don't have to have a separate line to feed the fuge. It's more efficient.

Ok this seems like a good idea. Anyone know of a program that is fairly easy to use that will work with a Mac? I don't need CAD capabilities here just some simple boxes, lines and such....

Well I tried Google Sketch up. That stuff is confusing..... I will try with just a regular drawing program next.

I also ordered a denitrator from Aquaripure. Man I got a good deal. Basically 80 bucks off. I am going to run it in conjunction with a skimmer on my setup. It should be here on Mon.

That's cool. Do you feed a ton and slack on water changes? hah hah. For what do you need a denitrator?

I do a water change now every Sun. It's my normal maintenance day. I plan on the same routine with the next tank.

But I do feed a ton. I feed in the AM and PM, then do a Reef Snow broadcast feed during the night.

I also add Acropower, Coral Color and Coral Amino from Brightwell

Man, you feed way more than I do. I think I need more fish. Maybe then I can justify feeding more. When are we gonna do that order?

I managed to find a Tanaka wrasse for my Nano at TCR. I need to look and see if anything excites me on LA... I will get back to you, but I'm ready anytime. I've been waiting on you....
