Hi there. Going to be upgrading(as some of you may have read in recent posts) and just wondering how i should do it. The new tank will be a couple of foot from the old. Everythings moving over. Should the sand go or shall i use new sand? Any ideas how i could go about it? I'm going from 120 to prob a 180ish.
Thanks:)

New sand is often recommended.

As for everything else, just move over as much as you can from the old tank. Water and rock.

What I would do is put new sand in new tank, move some water over, start moving some of the rock, move some more water, then more rock. Or put the rock in buckets with water in them. How ever you do it just keep the air touch time to a minimum on the rock, the longer it is exposed to air, the more die off you will have, resulting in a bigger cycle. You will likely experiece a small cycle none the less.

Keep as much of the old water as possible too.

Rinsing the sand and re-using is also often recommended. Just scoop off some from the top inch of your bed then put the rest in buckets and rinse until the water runs clear. Place the rinsed sand in the tank first and then put the unrinsed sand on top to re-seed. You have to rinse new sand anyway to remove the fine dust and this will save you $$$ that can be put to better use.

Cant wait, fish will be happier i'm sure. I'll be a bit worried about my moorish idol and regal angel though-hope the move isnt too stressfull!
