I have some old rock that used to be live now we will call it not so live. This stuff has come from about 4 different set ups and I would like to make sure that I will starting anew with no problems that may have been associated with those other set ups. This stuff is all dry but some of it has dried green Algae and other stuff I am sure attached to it.

The question that I have is what should I do to it before I attempt to make it live again. I know that I can seed it with some good live rock and I plan to do that but I want to make sure taht this stuff is clean and ready to accept all fo the new life that is going to jump on. I have heard of people "boiling" their rock but I am not sure what that entails. I have also heard of treating it with some type of acid wash but not sure what kind or how much.

Any advice or links to instructions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Bleach and water works. I have done this quite a few times in the past. After the bleach and water bath rinse it with fresh water. let it dry and repeat. Once it is dry the 2 time around you can dip it in some SW used from a previous water change and introduce it into the tank.
